Are you aware that "Dallas" is coming to the big screen starring Jennifer Lopez as Sue Ellen and John Travolta as J.R.? That's like getting your salsa from "NEW YORK CITY!"
Hahahaha! Yeah. It sounds pretty awful.

A lot of it had to do with this country's Obsession with Dallas...so when I tell them I'm from there, the eyes get really big, and then they ask me how the Ewings are and if I own any oil wells or horses....

I'm really pissed about that. I think George Clooney should play JR and Matthew McConoughay play Bobby. And maybe Tommy Lee Jones plays Jock. I only say them because they are TEXAS ACTORS! And they already have the accent.

And what about Jennifer Lopez? How many Puerto Ricans from The Bronx have you met in Texas?

the problem with being from massachusetts is everyone always thinks you're from boston or the cape. that is simply the easternmost chunk of mass. i'm from outside boston and go to school in western mass, which might as well be upstate new york anyways.

but this is about texas and i have nothing worthwhile to input since i've never been there or even anywhere near there.

You ever been to Rhode Island?

There's a reason...

Actually, it kinda reminds me of the dialogue from Storytelling, where the kid keeps going on about how New Jersey is where America is at.

I would say that experience is similar to being from Chicago. EVERYONE knows about Chicago no matter how distorted it is. We never say we're from Illinios.

I noticed that when I moved from Chicago(land) to here. Businesses there fly Chicago flags, not Illinois flags. Here, the Texas flag is everywhurrrrr.

the three different years you take Texas history in grade school.
You spent three years in the 7th grade? :P

Sybil
4th, 7th, and 10th. They spread it out for maximum impact.

Edit: But then, you're Sybil, so you probably already knew that. But maybe someone else reading didn't know... that.

our highschool just has world geography, world history and US history. no texas history.

keep in mind my mom went to school a million years ago. lolololshe's old

Really? I find that hard to believe (not saying yr a liar). We had to take it those three years. I thought that was the case in all public Texas schools.

Interesting point of contact: I have ancestors (legally) who are registered members of the Sons/Daughters of the Republic of Texas (I think my mom is eligible), and one, I believe, who fought and died in the Alamo. However, I was born in Chicago, and I still include that when asked where I'm from. It is a city that I believe has an equally strong legacy as Texas does as a state (in some ways, politically, economically, and culturally, though of course it was never its own sovereignty). When asked where I'm from, I always say both that I was born in Chicago, but raised in Texas.
