I think that has more to do with the soccer thing than the Texas thing but a combination of the two and I'm sure they'll be able to figure something out.

i have known of former Texas residents who have made it a point to come back to Texas to give birth to their children.

I didn't get the whole texas pride until i made a couple trips.

1. to LA in '00 and '01, i stayed with a bunch of texas X, there was a texas flag on the wall and a dog named lucken(put -bach on the tail end of that)

2. to Boston in '03(maybe) and was surrounded by a bunch of old texas punks.

it just makes sense, really

I know one reason Texans think of themselves as Texans first. That is what they teach you here in school. I was told in seventh grade that I had dual citizenship, first as a Texan and then as an American. That teachers eyes were always a bit bloodshot, though. Anyway, the really sell the kiddos on that idea throughout the three different years you take Texas history in grade school.

we only had it in 7th grade. we had holocaust history every year though. thats why i hate holocaust movies and i dont think that life is beautiful.

texans are just different. its sort of like the mafia. there is a strict sense of social etiquett. and we drvie fast. well in dallas anyway. they people here drive like ass holes but at least they move their asses. austin drivers SUCK times infinite plus one. and houston is a pile of shit. and el paso is mexico not texas. so basically austin is good if you have a bike and dallas is good if you have a car and everywhere else is stupid.

but yeah we can fly our flag at the same height as the american flag! THAT MEANS WERE SPECIAL!!!!! theres some crazy group of texans who claim texas is still its own country because texas was never legally brought into the union. which may be true but theyre still crazy and im sure carry guns and/or coonskin caps.

One of my friends actually has a Republic of Texas driver's license, and claims the only reason Texas is staying in the US is because of Social Security. Whatever.

Texan first. For starters, it's a great conversations piece for people over here. If you're an American in the UK, you're just another bloody yank. But if you're from Texas, that's an altogether different thing. They're infatuated. Even with the absolute hatred of the current President, they're infatuated. On my last trip to Texas, I bought some boots. I wear them all the time. And they catch the right sort of attention. A lot of it had to do with this country's Obsession with Dallas...so when I tell them I'm from there, the eyes get really big, and then they ask me how the Ewings are and if I own any oil wells or horses....

I've been to 47 out of the 50 states. While some of them are nice, and I've been to a place in almost every state that I would consider nice (yes, even in NJ), there's nothing like Texas. Would I live in Texas again? Maybe; the longer I'm in the UK the more and more I really think it's my style. But if I am able to pick where I want to live, I might. I certainly like being from there.

I would say that experience is similar to being from Chicago. EVERYONE knows about Chicago no matter how distorted it is. We never say we're from Illinios. And when I was from Iowa everyone mixed it up with Idaho.

Also, the same thing with if your born here, you end up here or never leave. You usually end up in the same nighborhood in the same church parish. I'm sure my son will raise his family in Beverly. It gets a little creepy at times.

For me, my Texas roots run deep. My family came over here while it was a Republic as part of Peter's Colony. That makes me 6th generation Texan and my children 7th generation.
If you remember the footage I had up of my wedding? There was a pecan tree we were married under. That tree is a pecan tree on what used to be family land. (all but four acres have been sold) That is the same land we received in the land grant back in the early 1800s.
My great grandmother planted that pecan tree. A house was right next to it. In that house my grandfather was born. It was also the same house that the bodies of my great-great-grandfather and great-grandfather laid in state. After the house was gone, generations of families would gather beneath it for picnics. So it only seemed right to have our wedding there.

Are you aware that "Dallas" is coming to the big screen starring Jennifer Lopez as Sue Ellen and John Travolta as J.R.? That's like getting your salsa from "NEW YORK CITY!"
