So i went to the ER at noon on Saturday. They drew blood and did a CT of my throat and found that I had a small abscess. Not big enough to drain, but big enough to be worrisome. Plus I had a medium high fever (101) and couldn't stay awake. So they put me on an IV with fluids, antibiotics, steroids, and morphine. They finally decided they wanted me to stay overnight so they could keep me on an IV and continue pain meds and steroids. The ENT wanted to just see if the antibiotics would work. If it got worse he would have to drain the abscess. If it didn't improve, he'd have to do a tonsillectomy. So they moved me up to a room a little after 7. (Yes, 7 hours on a bed in the ER with fluorescent lights in my face.) My mom stayed with me the whole time (that's love). She brought me soup and pajamas and my cell phone. The ENT put me on no food or liquid after midnight in case they needed to do surgery the next day. Then they switched my pain meds to Lortab and gave me an ambien, which knocked me out.
Woke up feeling much better. The ENT came by at noon and said I was doing much better and that I could eat. I ended up checking out at about 5:30.
Now I am home, showered, fever-free, and feeling much better. That's the first time I ever stayed in a hospital overnight. It was actually kinda nice. They had cable TV and the nurse responded instantly whenever I called. And being on pain-killers made it go by pretty fast.
Hopefully this is the end of the ordeal. I'm checking back in with the ENT in 2 or 3 weeks unless it (god forbid) gets bad again before then.
