Debate

Re: Debate
It wasn't that exciting, but here are some things I noticed (out of many little things)
- the moderator asks that the candidates address each other when debating...Obama looks and calls John's name throughout...McCain didn't look at Obama at all. body language says it all.
- McCan't tried to elude that Obama doesn't understand military strategies because "he's never been in service. UM neither has BUSH...HELLO. Bush almost defected to Canada to elude signing up for service.
- Obama made every point and was cool confident and seemed to get it and knew what he was talking about. McCain tried to play the emotional card...and everyone knows the guy is anything but nice, he's apparently a terror to work with in Washington.
Overall, not that exciting but the subtleties are what's going to make the difference in peoples mind. And there were plenty of those.

Re: Debate
I liked the couples therapy style of the debate. McCain continued to do what his ads do, throw flimsy arguments at Obama but he was there to say over and over "john, you know that isn't true".
and it's good to see news folk, chris mathews, still throwing out the "elite" shit:
"Can Barack Obama, a man of elite education if not elite background, break into the middle class and talk regular? Can he talk to regular people in their kitchens tonight, in their living rooms?[…]
Everybody thinks Barack is too cool. In other words, there he is with the shades, getting on the plane. A little bit too elegant, a little bit too proud of his own bearing. Is that a problem, that he’s just too cool for words. In other words, elite."

...and look at how well that turned out?- McCan't tried to elude that Obama doesn't understand military strategies because "he's never been in service. UM neither has BUSH...HELLO. Bush almost defected to Canada to elude signing up for service.

First of all, Chris Matthews is a tool.and it's good to see news folk, chris mathews, still throwing out the "elite" shit:

Second of all - "proud of his own bearing"? Is that newspeak for "uppity"? I don't know how that sounded to black folk, but it made my racism code word detector go off.
And talking to "regular" folks is what he's trying to do - and by regular I mean white. It's almost painful sometimes to watch the guy trying to get his point across without scaring the white folk. He can't be as forceful as some of us would like him to be for fear of being "angry black man", so he holds back and now he's too cool. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
I think the race card is the elephant in the room here, and the sooner somebody acknowledges it, the better. Obama did a great job back in the spring with a speech about it. Maybe it's time it got brought up again. Hell, the KKK had a meeting last night in Mississippi during the debate! What is this? 1962 again?

he did bring up his Kenya father, said that's why he has such a funny name. i liked that part. and the story of america being the only place in the world his father felt he could come to and have the opportunity to be whoever he wanted to be.
Re: Debate
That "elite education" line is the biggest pile of bullshit. Every president or presidential contender I know of went to Harvard or Princeton or some ivy league school or another. Even W went to Yale. And with the exception of W, they've all got law degrees from similarly fancy-pants places.

On the education note, how do Columbia & Harvard compare to the Naval Academy and the National War College? I mean, which one of those paths are we supposed to identify with?
Re: Debate
We're supposed to read "Columbia & Harvard" as richy elitist liberal commie schools that want to take away everyon'es personal property and "Naval Acadamy / War College" as working class War Hero (!) factories. On the education note, how do Columbia & Harvard compare to the Naval Academy and the National War College? Re: Debate
The flute playing was impressive, but I'm sure everyone has seen the swimsuit footage. Now, I don't know for sure when that competition was held, but I think it was in the fall, and Miss Heath is wearing WHITE SHOES! After Labor Day! I think we can see why she won Miss Congeniality (unlike her running mate) and not the title of Miss Alaska.
Why are none of the so-called pundits addressing this grievous gaffe? Surely, Gwen Ifill will address it during the debate - she's from PBS and we all know how much they are in the tank for Obama. Hamas, Gaza, Supreme Court, Bush Doctrine? Who cares? I want to see Ms. Palin (nee Heath) defend her tragic fashion choices. This woman is clearly out of touch and unqualified to lead.
