c'mon that's fucking funny.

He's really named Rolan Feld, anywho. His dad's real name.

A wikipedia search revealed to me the existence of Zowie Bowie. I'd say that's worse.

Well, that would be Zowie Jones then :P

Anyway, Bowie made far better music than Bolan, so I'll let him off with it.

Hey Jan, who is the person in your profile photo?

Looks like a horsey version of Cate Blanchett. . . but I am guessing it is a musician.

It is Charlotte Hathereley, who used to play guitar in Irish pop rock band Ash and now is a solo artist. Her album the Deep Blue was one of the best things I heard last year.

Ohhhh, OK.

I saw Ash play at Stubb's in Austin -- I think in 2003 -- and I think I was with Amy J.?? (Same bill as the Spree and Snow Patrol, I believe.)

i may or may not have to disagree with you. i haven't decided yet. and i haven't heard enough of his earlier stuff to decide.

i recently heard an interview with bowie where he said he never even wanted to be a performer. he wanted to write music and design shows, but basically nobody else could do what he wanted to do. i.e. he doesn't have the same born-to-perform thing in him that marc bolan had, which came through when he was on stage. if you can sit down on stage indian style and play an acoustic song in wembley and have the whole place shrieking, you're a pretty fucking good performer.
