i have found that the temperature of the water is very important - too hot or too cold and it is hurts like hell, think ice cream headache - i try to get the water to feel as close to 'body temperature' as possible. also, it can be painful for me if the water is too salty, or the salt is not dissolved completely. other than that, it hurts sometimes if the water seems to flow too fast or too slow - it feel like it is creating a pressure cooker in my sinuses - i try to adjust the tilt of my head to regulate the flow of water. it takes a bit of practice to get the hang of it. hope this helps.
