No, I don't think you'll be one of the 9k.
As for what you should hope for, I've always tried to maintain a "take it as it comes" attitude when there were big layoffs on the horizon (this was about a 2x a year occurance for the first 2-3 years after GTE / Bell Atlantic had first merged and I found myself in an IT org). The truth is being jobless terrifies me, but every truly talented person I know who was layed off (and there aren't many, usually it's the schlubs they kinda wanted to fire anyway, a RIF just makes it less paperwork) has been able to find something better. Except the one guy who became a prison guard, but that was his "calling" or some BS.

Do you both admire and secretly resent people who do what they love in spite of the fact that they could get more money / recognition doing something else?

I admire it when they are the only one that has anything to lose. Too often I've seen it where a person (usually a guy) has to be a writer/artist/philanthropist/barista/brewmaster at the expense of his wife and children.

We have a family member that has had a religious awakening and has literally sold EVERYTHING and given it all away. His wife is working her ass off and can't buy anything for herself because he'll give it away. The guy sold their land, their house, depleted any savings they had and has even given away his truck. When confronted he dismisses it and accusses you of not living like Jesus would.

It's really crazy. And disappointing.

I can easily think of two other guys that are "living the dream" while their families suffer.

Boy, Sunny. You picked a good question. I could go on and on about this. My dad did this kind of shit. Gah!

So... yeah. Maybe that's resentment. But it's not jealous resentment.

No it's not fair...once I was driving for LA to SF and this asshole was doing that sort of thing and pissing me and everyone else off (it's only a 2 lane hwy). Well don't you know I passed him up broke down in the worst place ever...outside a cow ranch that stinks to high heaven...it's the most foul smelling place I've ever really encountered and it's off the hwy and it's HOT there so you can smell it as you approach and you just want to quickly get past. I make sure all the vents and windows are closed and I still want to puke. SO he got his KARMA and BAD!

Sam Waterson seems to be a successful and cunning lawyer. (Ha ha, I said "cunning.")

Ice Tea. Just cuz.
oooh, or maybe Dexter, but is he a cop? Or just a technician-type-guy who works for the cops?
When confronted he dismisses it and accusses you of not living like Jesus would.
So I know I'm a certified heathen and all, but didn't the Jesus people have the decency to leave their families behind when they started following JC? Instead of hanging around stealing / pawning the shit they buy in His name?

Have you ever had a friend or family member "find Jesus," only to become a huge douche about it?

I've always been a 5 day work week sort of person. But I'm starting to rethink that concept. We can do 4/10 schedule here. I just might put in for it and soon.

No, but I threw a beer can (only about 1" of beer left) at a guy and hit him square in the forehead.

(He was a real d-bag, and we were floating down a river in innertubes -- and he crassly called out from his raft full of frat brothers for my friend and I to flash him. I launched the can before I even realized what I had done, and it hit him! I couldn't hit him like that again if I tried 100 more times.) pedals1

Sad to say I have not, though an ex of mine was all, "Hey, you're gonna get me into a fiiight, wah." one time when I was being snarky at a concert once.

Ever gotten into a fight over what someone else did?
