The Crash That Took Me - Orchestrated Kaleidoscopes
Nice work!No real order, and it took me ages to discern what came out in 2007 versus any other year (still not totally sure), but here's what I think everyone should love as much as me:
St. Vincent - Marry Me: The more I listen, the more I'm absolutely stunned, and the more my initial comment of it being a bit "Kate Bush"-esque is correct.
Gruff Rhys - Candylion: I think this will be the one people look back on and wonder how they missed it. It's truly an indie-pop gem.
The National - Boxer: I don't know how I never heard of this band before, but this album spawned me to buy everything by them and become insta-fan.
Radiohead - In Rainbows: Yeah, it's getting a bit obvious to say they released a top record, but despite my high expectations, they managed to top them. That, and making a non-miserable record deserves the kudos.
The New Pornographers - Challengers: It's less obvious than their previous efforts, but that, in essence, is it's beauty. Most balanced record they've done...
Blonde Redhead - 23: A sonic coming-of-age for them, ironically arriving perfectly for them on 4AD...
Tunng - Good Arrows: I think they're finally putting it all together. Same comments apply here as the Gruff Rhys record
Puressence - Don't Forget to Remember: yeah, a blast from the britpop past, and written off for dead after their third crappy record, but after half a decade they made a burner; now if anyone will listen...
Jose Gonzalez - In Our Nature: as kick ass as the first
Kristin Hersh - Learn to Sing Like A Star: prolific, and at times, epic
The Hoosiers - The Hoosiers & The Trick To Life: Best radio pop record in years...YEARS!...
Super Furry Animals - Hey Venus!: Amassing one of the greatest catalogs in musical history.
Martha Tilston - Of Milkmaids And Architects: Amazing voice, great songwriter, amazing musicians...a snapshot of England present and past in one...
Monstrance - Monstrance: not for everyone, but as a musician I can get lost in this...
All that said though, the most amazing thing that came out this year for me wasn't new. It was:
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation (Deluxe Set): To be honest, it probably sounds better today than it did back in '88...
I don't have their album...but I did see them in spain recently and the show was AWESOME!!! I went based on everyone else saying how great they are live. Up to that point I'd only heard a couple of tunes.srsly, what am i missing about the national album? i downloaded it cause everyone was all omk about it. then i listened to it a few times and it just made me sleepy.
