i know nothing about cooking, so i have nothing useful to contribute. i will, however, state that my family has never eaten turkey on thanksgiving because none of us like it that much. so we have ham instead. and the day before thanksgiving is my anniversary of being a vegetarian.

spiral ham is just as wonderful as bacon. except bigger. and glazed in honey spices.i know nothing about cooking, so i have nothing useful to contribute. i will, however, state that my family has never eaten turkey on thanksgiving because none of us like it that much. so we have ham instead. and the day before thanksgiving is my anniversary of being a vegetarian.

as for me, if i felt up to it, i'd make some of my special whole-wheat rolls. but my health has been meh, i can't motivate myself to cook lately, so i'm hoping that someone makes the family's secret-recipe buttermilk biscuits...
i'm happy for some decent turkey and a seat in the corner where people will leave me alone. what more could one want at thanksgiving?

What?! You need regular mashed potatoes to go with the giblet gravy. Surely, you just forgot to type them in in the original post.
I want Sprinkles cupcakes for Thanksgiving. We have the "Cupcake Cottage" off Camp Bowie but I haven't been in yet.

The day after Thanksgiving is my vegiversary. Can't you ask your mom to use veggie broth instead? I asked grandma but she won't do it cuz she's bitchy like that.
As for recipes, I really got nothin. Unless you want a mac n cheese recipe.

We had Thanksgiving with Mom last week with turkey, sweet potatoes, mashed potatos, cranberry, g-bean casserole, rolls & pumpkin pie.
This week I'm making a mini-Thanksgiving for Paul and me. We're having Chicken, roasted butternut squash, green beans, new potatos and stuffing.
One of our friends gave us a big bag of apples from their apple tree, so for dessert we're having apple pie.
Not really traditional stuff, but will be good none the less.
One of our new-ish family traditions is to have a Greenburg smoked turkey from Terrell, TX - not for the main meal, but for the day before, snacking, day after. Unfortunately they do not ship overseas.
Have fun hosting your first Thanksgiving! Hope it goes well!

My secret for smooth, promised not to be lumpy and stupid gravy:
3 tbsp butter
3 tbsp flour
Melt the butter and add the flour and work it into a paste.
Prep your stock - about 1 cup (veggie boullion, pan drippings & water, chicken stock, whatev). If you are using boullion or chicken stock add half tsp each cracked black pepper, sage, rosemary, thyme, 2 tbsp chives, a dash of garlic salt. Get it hot enough to bubble but don't burn it.
Add your flour/butter paste and stir. If it's too thick for your liking just add a bit of water.

Mmmmmm, gravy! Sounds great!
So does your British Chicken Thanksgiving meal, Maidments.
I have since added mashed potatoes to the menu -- Tracy will be happy.
Mom's gonna help me with those, although I imagine it's not too hard to do. I want to make them llike my Gram though, and my mom knows the recipe.
Mr. J and all of the pig-lovers will be happy to know that I will probably be wrapping my asparagus in bacon. (Sam will be happiest of all.)

My mother told me when I was little that stuffing could not be home made; it only comes from the store. Like mayonaise. I was in my late teens before I found out ths was not entirely true.My mom fixes food. She doesn't cook. She fixes.
Dry turkey, instant mashed taters, cranberry sauce in the shape of the can, stove top stuffing and banana pudding in a graham cracker crust trying to be passed off as a pie.
Okay, that's exageratin a bit. But not really.
Also, I didn't know what an actual cranberry looked like til I was 12.
