i've recently been going through my vinyl, and i happened upon some old Poi Dog Pondering EP's. i didn't dig 'em when i bought 'em years ago, but MAN, listening to them now, i have to say...they're brilliant!
did any of you older forkers ever see 'em live? if you did, were they as good as they seem like they would be?

I saw them at CMJ once, but I was so smashed that all I did was make fun of their name over and over. Ahhh college.

Damn. If I knew they sounded like Anal Cunt then I would have listened to them a lot sooner.listening to them, they sort of sound like something James would dig....

For the record, I like Poi Dog Pondering, but don't love them. They were MUCH better live, if I remember correctly. I remember being impressed anyway...I know a lot of people that loved them, but I never found that spot with their music personally.
If Poi Dog Pondering mixed with Anal Cunt, they would probably sound like this acoustic punk band called Rectal Agitation that was around TCU when I was there...although they really did sound like the Violent Femmes; even did a cover of "Add It Up"...

what's wild is they sort of have a James (the band, not the Reimer) vibe to them, especially their late-80s stuff (which can be heard on their myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/poidogpondering for you kids out there), ESPECIALLY the song "Pulling Touch"
i guess when i first started to hear of them was around the time i started hearing of bands like Phish and Retarded Elf, and stuff like that, I simply hated.

I see your point about James. But I kinda just like them too, don't really love them (despite owning all of their stuff).what's wild is they sort of have a James (the band, not the Reimer) vibe to them, especially their late-80s stuff (which can be heard on their myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/poidogpondering for you kids out there), ESPECIALLY the song "Pulling Touch"

you aren't far off.I saw them at CMJ once, but I was so smashed that all I did was make fun of their name over and over. Ahhh college.
I got a vision of you sitting on the couch with beavis and butthead. it's a pretty friggin awesome vison.

When I saw them open for the Indigo Girls in 1992, they sounded amazing. I really liked that record. They were MUCH better live, if I remember correctly. I remember being impressed anyway...
And I remember being especially impressed with the dance skills of the lead singer. He was wearing silver pants and his legs flew everywhere -- like one of those rural America puppets made of wood, ona long stick, who dances on the board you hold you your lap???
