Police a Go Go

While a reunion performance by The Police at the Grammy Awards in L.A. February 11 is big news, Pollstar has learned that the really big story will come the next day.
The band will hold a morning press conference February 12 at L.A.'s famed Whiskey a Go Go, where they will announce what is being called "really big news" and will also perform a few songs.
Although the exclusive event is for industry and media only, L.A. radio station 93.1 Jack FM is holding a contest that will grant a few listeners a chance to attend.
The blogs have been buzzing for weeks about possible dates for a summer tour by The Police, and fans have been awaiting an official announcement. While Pollstar's sources have been extremely tight-lipped about exactly what really big news the band will announce at the Whiskey, it's a safe bet fans won't be waiting after Monday.

The Police was my first concert by a "rock" band (I had seen Michael Jackson by then and Willie Nelson about 8 times already). Needless to say, I blame them for my incredibly high standards on what a band should sound like live. And their box set rules.

The Police will kick off their first tour in 23 years in Vancouver on May 28, it was confirmed today (February 12).
The three-piece revealed their plans at a press conference at the Los Angeles venue Whisky A Go Go, just a day after performing their classic hit 'Roxanne' at the Grammy Awards.
The group's first jaunt since the 1984 'Synchronicity' tour will start at the GM Arena in Vancouver, the Canadian city where the band are currently rehearsing.
After a string of dates in Canada, the band will head down to the USA for shows throughout June and July, including a slot at the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee on June 16.
The dates announced so far are:
Vancouver GM Place (May 28)
Seattle Key Arena (June 6)
Denver Pepsi Center (9)
Las Vegas MGM Garden Arena (15)
Bonnaroo Festival (16)
Phoenix US Airwaves Arena (18)
Dallas American Airlines Center (26)

St Louis Scottrade Center (July 2)
Toronto Air Canada Center (22)

NME.COM understands that British and European dates will be announced towards the end of the month, while it's strongly rumoured more American dates are planned in the autumn along with visits to Mexico, South America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
Sting, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland split in 1984, although they regrouped for a handful of concerts in 1986 before breaking up for good. They did perform in public at their 2003 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The group also played an impromptu set at Sting's 1992 wedding to Trudie Styler.

Stewart Copeland was my favorite. I have a couple of Klark Kent 45's on green vinyl around here somewhere.hmm, maybe i will go then. a good chance to see one of the world's greatest drummers (and probably the best hi-hat of any drummer ever)
