i had a rabbit fur coat when i was little (was my moms when she was little) and it was soooo warm and soft but when i found out the rabbit couldn't give you its fur like a lamb does (i said i was little) and it has to die, i refused to wear it anymore.
i would maybe wear a vintage fur coat, but it still feels sort of yucky. i dont know why fur is any worse than leather though? leather probably fucks up the environment during the treatment process. i mean i know its not worse, but it seems worse. huh.
i dont really support PETA, but i support PETA more than i support mcdonalds or the NRA. i guess i don't hate PETA but i wouldn't donate money either.

Vintage fur is seen as ok by some because it has been in circulation for decades and doesn't benefit the fur industry. Why is vintage fur okay?

exactly... tons of people dont wear fur but they wear leather. why is that ok? then you're just throwing part of the animal away. huh. interesting. i mean i've thought about it, but never in depth.- Mere "not buying the 'vintage fur is OK' argument, but I wear leather, so who am I to say?" 1975

I'd like to think that the cows I wear were not slaughtered solely for their leather. They made nutritious steaks and menudo for people, plus scary byproducts.then you're just throwing part of the animal away.
However, a mink?? What do you do with the rest of a mink? No one eats it, right? I think that primarily, they are raised to be slaughtered just for their fur.
So somehow, leather is slightly more economic???

I saw a Dillards ad for a nutria fur coat. When I lived by the lake, there were nutria that lived there, and they are giant nasty rodent-pests. I wouldn't want to get near one of those things, much less wear one.
As for vintage fur, I don't have a problem with it because it doesn't contribute to the demand for fur, so fur production isn't being affected by the purchase.
That being said, I saw a lady putting gas in her Lexus the other day, and she was wearing a full length fur coat, and my only thought was "ew."

If you're going to kill an animal you should use every part of it. Cows will always be slaughtered for meat. Not using their hides for leather is wasteful and disprespectful of the animal and nature.I'd like to think that the cows I wear were not slaughtered solely for their leather. Fur is different because it's not a byproduct of a food source. Although to me, if you'e ok with killing critters unneccesarily (and I don't think killing animals for food is a neccesity), the whole thing seems a bit like splitting hairs...

It's old. From '77 or '78.Old or new?I have a bookmark made of seal fur.
It's from when we lived in Alaska. Y'all would be appalled at the full inventory of the fur and skin and ivory we brought back from there.
Damn. I guess this where I confess I've eaten muktuk....
AND! I! LOVED! IT!!!
Our whole school let out and we went to the "beach" when the whalers returned. They whole town shut down and they had a party and we ate muktuk till we were sick. Which for us white kids... didn't take long.
This is why the local food co-op stopped carrying Horizon products. Also, every year the co-op votes to extend a ban on animal-tested products being sold in the store. Recently the store stopped carrying POM (Pomegranate juices) because the juices are tested on animals. Why, why do you need to test juice on animals??in fact, one of the articles was about a Horizon Organics egg farm. Their "free range" chickens are in a windowless building and are rarely allowed outside.
