Postby mr_j » Thu Nov 30, 2006 4:14 pm

so...it's that time of year again...go! what's the best you've heard this year? what's the record you're waiting to hear in '07?

as for the 'looking forward to' list, i just got an advance of the new earlies record. "wow" is about all i can say...

here are three tracks to prove my point:

The Ground That I Walk On
No Love In Your Heart
Breaking Point

don't say i didn't warn ya...

I can't be bothered to put any sort of order on them, and I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting, but looking at my itunes, here's what I enjoyed the most that came out in 2006. I did not include any Greatest Hits or singles collections, but some good ones were released this year.

Adem - Love And Other Planets
The Album Leaf - Into The Blue Again
Belle & Sebastian - The Life Pursuit
Calexico - Garden Ruin
Camera Obscura - Let's Get Out Of The Country
(The Decemberists - The Crane Wife)***
Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere
Gomez - How We Operate
Grandaddy - Just Like The Fambly Cat
Guster - Ganging Up On The Sun
Jarvis - Jarvis
Joanna Newsom - Ys
Juana Molina - Son
The La's - The La's BBC In Session
The Magic Numbers - Those The Brokes
Midlake - The Trials Of Van Occupanther
Nobody & Mystic Chords Of Memory - Tree Colored See
Richard Buckner - Meadow
Snow Patrol - Eyes Open
Sufjan Stevens - Christmas Box Set
Terry Callier - Speak Your Peace
Thom Yorke - The Eraser
Tortoise & Bonny "Prince" Billy - The Brave and the Bold
Tunng - Comments Of The Inner Chorus
Voices And Organs - Orphanage
Yo La Tengo - I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass

***heard parts of, and expecting it to be up there in my list

Jeffery and Jack Lewis' album was in 2005 mr steve. Although I was pretty disappointed with it compared to his first album (never got the second one). Too many shoddy rock songs I thought.

I've bought almost 40 albums from 2006 so far, which is probably a new record for me. Shall see if I buy some more first though.

Hmmm, sort by year, 2006, somehow there isn't much here. I would second the Neko Case and I really enjoy EoDM - Death by Sexy, but wouldn't put it on any best of lists. I seem to be a few years behind on these things.

the sufjan stevens christms thing is pretty good. i liked about half of it but the other half were boring songs or cheesy ones (jingle bells).

i havent really liked any cd that's come out since the arcade fire.

wait i like danielson.

that's about it.

i'm sick of music.
