big nasty bug bites

Postby dialzero » Sat Oct 21, 2006 7:35 pm

Hi all. I have chosen this topic to fully reintroduce myself. :)

I woke up with some BIG NASTY BUG BITES, 4 in all. Three are the size of mosquito bites, but one is about the size of the last joint of my pinkie (not circle). They are dark red and itch like HELL and have been around for almost a week! Does anyone know what kind of Texas demon bug might have caused these and what I can do about them? (I've only tried hydrocortisone and it doesn't work.) I haven't been tromping around the woods or anything; I know chigger bites are pretty bad, but I don't think chiggers live in houses.

I already checked the cats for fleas.

To make matters worse, one of them is in a rather intimate area and I don't want to be seen scratching it.

Help!!

spider bites. especially if they are in any sort if a line like the spider went walk, bite, walk, bite. walk.

watch out if you get a pus-like center. could be a brown recluse, then. dolan got bit by one when he was little, and it was nastay. had to go the doc every day for a week so they could checkit, and major antibiotics and stuff. shit rotted his hand so bad that you could see the bone at one point.

I won't guess what kind of bug, but I will say that I've had mosquito bites that big, especially if I've been scratching them in my sleep. Some seasons it seems I'm more alergic to them than others.

As for the itch - believe it or not, a paste of baking soda and water works wonders. It's sort of messy but if you're going to be out and about you can cover it with gause and then wrap that in an ace bandage (though you'll leave a trail of powder everywhere).

Aveeno baths help with major itchiness.

And I too have had humongous mosquito bites.

I got biten by spiders every week at camp...I'm sure the spider was trying to make a giant dot to dot drawing on my back...nail polish helped stop the itching I found, doesn't stop the puss and gunk a few days later though :(
I doubt it was a brown recluse...a councillor told me of the time he got biten by one and his ankle swelled up like half a tennis ball *shudder*
I almost picked one up by accident when I was picking up fire wood...almost shat myself then went and got dalya's camera and took a picture of it...

summary, apply nail polish to stop the itching

Sounds like a chigger. Especially if one of 'em got you in the business.
Being serious here, as wacked out as this sounds, put fingernail polish over the bite. It may sting for a bit but it works.

I was thinking chiggers too, especially if you've been sitting around in the grass or walking in particularly tall grass, but is it still warm enough for chiggers in tejas at the moment?

But yeah, there tend to be more than one and they can be pretty big and they itch like hell, and they tend to get you where elastic meets skin, like the sock line, or yeah...I agree with nail polish; it works very well and so does calamine lotion.

Ask your doctor if Valtrex is right for you.
Due to the economy, I had to let my signature go.
