inspiring things

Postby Dalya » Tue Apr 25, 2006 6:15 pm

"one man loved the pilgrim soul in you
and loved the sorrows of your changing face."

"sometimes it is necessary
to reteach a thing its loveliness
to put a hand on its brow
of the flower
and retell it in words and in touch
it is lovely."

"i celebrate myself, i sing myself"

"this is the way the world ends
this is the way the world ends
this is the way the world ends
not with a bang, but a whimper"
(god i fucking love that.)
I myself am hell;
nobody’s here—

:D I like this thread.

Good stuff Dalya... it reminded me to re-read one of my favourites...
Song of Myself by Walt Whitman. Here are little bits that I love:

"I have heard what the talkers were talking, the talk of the
beginning and the end,
But I do not talk of the beginning or the end.

There was never any more inception than there is now,
Nor any more youth or age than there is now,
And will never be any more perfection than there is now,
Nor any more heaven or hell than there is now.

Urge and urge and urge,
Always the procreant urge of the world.

Out of the dimness opposite equals advance, always substance and
increase, always sex,
Always a knit of identity, always distinction, always a breed of
life.
To elaborate is no avail, learn'd and unlearn'd feel that it is so.

Sure as the most certain sure, plumb in the uprights, well
entretied, braced in the beams,
Stout as a horse, affectionate, haughty, electrical,
I and this mystery here we stand.

Clear and sweet is my soul, and clear and sweet is all that is not
my soul.

Lack one lacks both, and the unseen is proved by the seen,
Till that becomes unseen and receives proof in its turn.

Showing the best and dividing it from the worst age vexes age,
Knowing the perfect fitness and equanimity of things, while they
discuss I am silent, and go bathe and admire myself.

Welcome is every organ and attribute of me, and of any man hearty
and clean,
Not an inch nor a particle of an inch is vile, and none shall be
less familiar than the rest.

I am satisfied - I see, dance, laugh, sing;
As the hugging and loving bed-fellow sleeps at my side through the
night, and withdraws at the peep of the day with stealthy
tread,
Leaving me baskets cover'd with white towels swelling the house with
their plenty,
Shall I postpone my acceptation and realization and scream at my
eyes,
That they turn from gazing after and down the road,
And forthwith cipher and show me to a cent,
Exactly the value of one and exactly the value of two, and which is
ahead?"

*there is more where that came from, but I'll stop for now ;)*

"As every blossom fades
and all youth sinks into old age,
so every life's design,
each flower of wisdom,
every good attains its prime
and cannot last forever.
In life, each call the heart
must be prepared courageously
without a hint of grief,
submit itself to other new ties.
A magic dwells in each beginning,
protecting us
tells us how to live.

High purposed we must traverse
realm on realm,
cleaving to none as to a home,
the world of spirit
wishes not to fetter us
but raise us higher,
step by step.

Scarce in some safe
accustomed sphere of life
have we establish a house,
then we grow lax;
only he who is ready
to journey forth
can throw old habits off.

Maybe death's hour too
will send us out new-born
towards undreamed-lands,
maybe life's call to us
will never find an end
Courage my heart,
take leave and fare thee well."

"i will not kiss your fucking flag!"

"I didn't know I loved the earth
can someone who hasn't worked the earth love it
I've never worked the earth
it must be my only Platonic love."

"Life for me aint been no crystal stair"

"Wisdom, said William James,
Is learning what to overlook. And I am wise
If that is wisdom."

"But really no one is exceptional,
No one has anything. I'm anybody,
I stand beside my grave
Confused with my life, that is commonplace and solitary."

"Give me back [myself], hard
and furious, with wide shoulders and a curse
for God and burning eyes that look upon
all creation and say, You can have it."

nobody’s here—

Because my mouth
Is wide with laughter
And my throat
Is deep with song,
You do not think
I suffer after
I have held my pain
So long?

Because my mouth
Is wide with laughter,
You do not hear
My inner cry?
Because my feet
Are gay with dancing,
You do not know
I die?

— “Minstrel Man” Langston Hughes,
I myself am hell;
nobody’s here—

"I am NOT drinking any fucking merlot!"
Haha! I was never much of a merlot fan, so this line touches my heart.

Sunsets and endless oceans inspire me. They rid my head of debris and clear them for new possibilities. I get ideas here. At the risk of quoting a trite poet, they remind me of what Robert Frost said: "In three words I can sum up everything I've learned in life: It goes on."

I shot this this weekend in florida:

I Am The Old Hat

Influence

I have been thinking about influence a lot lately. I have always felt an incredibly strong sense of destiny. I am not sure if everyone feels this way or if I am just a little bit obsessed with meaning, moments, and real time memories. I am who I am I guess. I have always loved to put myself with spirits on the vanguard of the fight of our life or better said the fight of life. Life itself is an unnatural state and a challenge. Humans have such a tendency to rebel against the flow. Please forgive me if that sounds overtly hippie. I hate the idea of being categorized and departmentalized like that. One of the problems with our age and cultural is that everything is plastic. Where are the poets? Where are the real people? We have our heads so far stuck into the earth as a nation as a world. We need to understand that we have power to change our own destiny. I am sick and tired of the corruption of spirit that eats away at your psyche like a cancer. Its not just the politicians; its the middle class, the poor, all levels. There is a war going on around usbut it is being waged in our hearts and minds. We are letting each other down. So how can I wield my influence? There is the broad stroke. Art, writing, creation etcthese things certainly can be important in changing things. But Im learning that in humility and our personal relationships we can help change the ones we encounter in our day to day lives. Our art can be a vehicle, but maybe not the most efficient. Where we can make a difference is with the souls and spirits we encounter along the way. Personal relationships are the most powerful tool. Maybe its vanity that makes us want the multitudes rather than our mothers? The tricky part is you can destroy a lot of good and influence if you are shitty person (simple description used for a reason)! Like eating meat we devour the energy of that which we consume. So beware. Itt is in purity of heart that true beauty lives. Your life is your canvas. We must live integrity, hope, art, and loveor IT WILL DISSAPPEAR. Buildings fall, air becomes dirty, apples rot, friendships fade, and hope becomes hollow. I am the old hat I used to wear, sitting in the rain.

Good read, Rubberman. :)

For my part, I've decided on cellular respiration:

C6H12O6 + 6O2 = 6CO2 + 6H2O + Energy

It all happens in four little exchanges of molecules. It's simple, elegant. And I think it's mind-blowing that all of us and everything we do (or even think) runs on this simple little process. It's like magic - only better.
