Postby zenmomma » Tue Mar 27, 2007 7:19 pm

OMK. I just got a bargain!!!

I found the Eddie Izzard box set online which has six discs:
1. Definite Article
2. Unrepeatable
3. Glorious
4. Dress To Kill
5. Circle
6. Sexie

... and it only cost me £8.99 delivered! YAY! 9+ hours of Eddie! :D

I just saw the box set when we were out shopping this weekend for £34.99 and thought it would be awesome to have, but not exactly affordable. Now I'm gonna have it after all! :D

I don't think so. It might be on a cable/satellite channel -- I think they have a couple of Fox channels. Alas, our poor flat can't have either cable or a dish... so we are Freeview kids.

We actually do get quite a few good US "cable" shows on our regular channels. I've been watching Prison Break & Big Love lately... oh and Ugly Betty. Yeah, I know I'm probably a season behind, but I've been here almost 2 years now so I don't know what I'm missing anymore. ;)

Actually, Lost is so popular here that it is now running only a few days behind the US broadcast. Maybe this trend will pick up on other popular primetime shows.

With suspenseful serial shows like Lost or Prison Break, I imagine they have to do that to avoid spoilers leaking!

We are recording the Riches. I missed the first one, but I'd like to check out a few episodes.

I'm sort of half watching the Riches. It's disturbing yes, but I can't decide if I'm bored by it. The first episode set up a fantastic story, but I'm leaning towards teh fact it might be moving a bit too slow for me. I'm giving it a chance tho.

I couldn't believe that was Eddie Izzard tho, when the ads first started running I thought he looked familiar, but wouldn't have guessed. Mostly because I'm not a serious fan and had seen him in drag and makeup so didn't really know what he looked like with facial hair.

I agree with Jackie - the pilot was fascinating. I loved it and couldn't wait to see where they were going with this story. So far, I'm not blown away, but interested enough to give it a couple more episodes - they're veering dangerously close to cliche.

I find one of the more clever touches is that one of the "Rich" children is a cross dresser. Sly Eddie had to get it in there somehow I guess.

p.s. Oh, and Minnie Driver is stunning, knock you over good. What an under appreciated actress she is!

actually I'm appreciating Minnie Driver more now because of this show. She's really good. Actually they're all good...just don't know if the show is something I'm interested in.

Yes, a very promising start. Eddie as a Traveler as a dead lawyer could provide some superb entertainment if the writing holds up.

I think we are about to start recording the 2nd episode right now. Usually three shows is all I need to make up my mind, even if I'm wrong.

Minnie Driver is the reason I stopped watching.

Her attempt at a southern accent led me to kill my kids and bury them in the backyard.

Coincidentally, there is an article in today's Wall Street Journal about this very thing! U.S. television networks are increasingly trying to beat the digital pirates and get popular television programs on the air in Europe much sooner. So, yes, look for this trend to pick up. In fact, the show "Jericho" is making it to British TV within hours of airing in the U.S. Apparently, Disney is at the forefront.

Now, if it would just work the other way round. Are you paying attention BBC? I want to see Doctor Who and Life on Mars!

I'm not sure Jericho is a real show, but still, I can't see how they can deny the global nature of media much longer.
