A song dedication (to my Mini Cooper)

Postby mere1975 » Thu Aug 28, 2008 3:13 pm

(The Dolly version, not Whitney.)

If I should stay I would only be in your way
so I'll go
but I know I'll think of you every step of the way
And I will always love you will always love you
You my darling you
bittersweet memories
That is all I am taking with me so
Good-bye
please don't cry we both know
I'm not what you you need
And I will always love you will always love you
I hope life treats you kind and
I hope you have all you dreamed of
And I wish you joy and happiness but above all of this
I wish you love

Although you were not a propah Mini, you were mine. You made me smile, kids laugh and other drivers wave. Thanks.

yeah that was sure a short loved affair.

I'd like to upgrade but only to a new element tho. I like my honda element. I'm holding out until they make them more fuel efficient tho. maybe a hybrid or something...now that'd be nice.

edit, just read the link. TDI diesel? hmmm interesting.

NOOOOOOO!!!

Mere, you traitor - how could you? Verde and I are shocked - SHOCKED!

Dear Mere'scar (did it have a name? Hudson?),

I would give you a good home if I could afford a playmate for Verde. Hopefully you don't end up with some schmuck.

Sincerely,
Sunny

Yeah, but the mph those things get more than makes up for it. Plus you only have to change the oil every 6k mi instead of every 3k. (but and oil change on a TDI cost twice as much... which means you break even if my math is right... which is usually isn't.)

Mini recommends every 10k for their cars.

I have a tdi. I get my oil changed every 10k, talked to some old diesel greasers and this is what they recommend. If you take it to the dealer it costs twice as much, I go to my local guy(Lakewood Texaco) and he just charges me 35$. I get about 30 mpg in the city and upper 30s(hit 40's a couple times on long trips) on the highway. The car turned 7 in April and still seems to be running strong, just hope the rest of the VW can stay alive as long as the engine.

yeah actually I've been reading that we're conditioned to change the oil way too often. The cars are made better and driver cleaner now. It's a "bio" waste to change as frequently as we do. (well I never do it on time anyway.) Wait an extra 1 or 2K or even 3K miles before you rush out and change it. Your car should be fine and you use less oil in the long run, which means less used oil to be dealt with.

OK, I am home with new car and all. Nothing like 4 hours in the car, 2 hours at a car dealership, and 4 more hours in a car! (Edit -- I went to Houston because Dallas dealers are charging a $3k premium! But most dealerships in Austin, Shreveport & Houston area are not.)

The new TDI will be amazing on gas mileage -- 40s and 50s per gallon once the engine is really "broken in" -- and the carbon footprint is smaller. Low emissions and all. So low, we'll even get a $1,300 tax credit. Thanks, U.S. government. *makes Rosie the Riveter pose*

Plus, you have to use premium in Minis, so it wasn't that cheap. One of my favorite web sites -- www.fueleconomy.gov -- estimates I will save $576 in gasoline per year over the Mini.

Aside from gasoline, I will definitely miss my Mini! I got it almost 3 1/2 years ago (so not *that* short of a love affair) and it was good to me.

I just need 2 more doors and a back-back for the dogs.

P.S.
I took pictures at a truck stop.

yea!!!!!

the best i've done is around 43mpg, but when I'm on a long drive i like to see how fast I can go. I'll let you know how this weekend trip to lake travis goes.

you can be in my club. one of the best things is pulling into a truck stop, truck side, and filling up with those giant nozzles that fill the car up with a quickness.

I love my Element tho, I can't even think of another model I like out there..as a matter of fact, I haven't liked anything else since seeing the first Element in 2003. Oh well. I drive less than 10k miles a year anyway. I've had my car now 2.5 years and haven hit 20K.

congrats on your new ride Mere!

my 12 gallon tank got a little over 500 miles on my trip to lake travis and austin. took the back roads down to travis then 35 back up. that's around 42mpg.
