Has anyone else seen this movie?
It was from the late 90s with Christian Bale and Ewan McGregor. It tracked the Glam Rock era in the 70s with songs by T-Rex, Brian Eno, & Roxy Music. I saw it some years ago at like 2:00am and wasn't sure about it but it sort of stuck with me.
I don't know why I was thinking about it today except maybe it was the crappy commercial that is using a T-Rex song that reminded me of it.
If you saw it, what'd you think?

I've seen it many times and really rather like it

Of course Ewan is my favourite actor, and Bowie is my favourite singer, I think the clothes and music of the glam era were absolutely fabulous, so it would be hard for me not to like it!

Yeah. I thought the acting was really good and the production was lush and beautiful. They created the mood really well and, of course, the music was great. But something seemed off and I'm not sure what it was. I think I liked it, but didn't know if I would recommend it.
I should probably watch it again.

Yea, the first time I watched it I was just like ...what?
Then I watched it again, and again, and I came to love it. I think the imagery is awesome.

Never seen it. Is it supposed to be based on Bowie or purely fictional?

A lot of sources will say it's all fictional, but it is SO based on Bowie and Iggy Pop you'd have to completely be sheltered from the world to not realize! I mean, we go from the long hair and frocks, to the glam, to the screwed up drug phase, it's 69-76 Bowie in a nutshell pretty much.

It's not about Bowie. It's a fictional story.
(Jedi, help me here. edit: You did.

thanks.) It is about a young dude, Christian Bale, who's caught up in the glam-rock world and I think he's a reporter of some sort. Ewan McGregor is a booze drenched, drugged soaked, flaming-out glam star with whom the Christian Bale character is infactuated with. The background story of the glam rock scene is probably more interesting than the main story.
And I remember I really dug the soundtrack.

Oh, god, you're speaking my language now.
I'll have to come back to this one during daylight...

I was wondering when you would chirp up.
I could go into it, but it's much more fun when MT does it...

I looove Velvet Goldmine, and you should definately see it again. A lot of people don't completely follow it the first time through, and I still catch new things in it when I watch it.
Maybe I'm just stupid but I watched it at least 5 times before I noticed the wardrobe mistress' significance...
As for the soundtrack, it's got to be my favorite ever, no exceptions.
I don't really like how bland and dreary everything looks in the "modern day" scenes though. Mainly because I don't like to see Christian Bale looking all fat and doughy.

I saw it once a couple of years ago and was unimpressed to say the least. Eddie Izzard, acting???!
