2. Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam
3. Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha
4. Dan Deacon - Spiderman of the Rings
5. Clutchy Hopkins - The Life of Clutchy Hopkins
6. The Aliens - Astronomy for Dogs

11. Flight of the Conchords - The Distant Future
Also of note is my discovery of Ween. Ween is an incredibly talented band, people. They are the chameleons of music. The two main members, Gene and Dean Ween, make some of the wildest and most inventive music I've ever heard. They can play the most spot-on satire of smooth jazz, accompanied with a story about the most perfect lameo dinner party. Other songs nail German techno (including a German countdown) while really explaining friendship.
"A friend's a friend who knows what being a friend is -- talking, with a friend. As friends we were always so close but so far away. Friends in life are special, do you want me as your special friend? 'Cause you're the friend that I've been searching for."
GERMAN TECHNO, PEOPLE! I have NEVER seen anyone hear this song and not dance at least a little.
They have incredible guitar solos, too, like on King Billy when the guitar SPEAKS as the King himself!
Course, they have just sweet ass rock songs, too. Songs that get your head not only bobbin' but rockin. With My Own Bare Hands, on the new album, details what you can do with your hands. Things like cutting the grass, replicating a man from someone else's DNA, you know, all the basics.
If any of you would like some Ween, I would be more than happy to oblige. Also, this is a thread about the best albums of the year and I've just wrote a ton on Ween. Ooooooooooooooops. Well, chalk another one up for them. They inspire passionate digressions.

I heard the guys from Ween on NPR last week.
Then yesterday they profiled Fallout Boy Guy and he was acting like boys wearing eye makeup was sooo cutting edge and actually said he wished he were gay and then they made me listen to that Panic! At The Disco song.

Easy top contenders:
Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha
Explosions in the Sky - All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone
The Polyphonic Spree - The Fragile Army
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Rufus Wainwright - Release the Stars
Also great, but I've only so far heard a little, or it's starting to grow on me, or it was supposed to be the greatest thing ever and was just okay, or awesome live, but I haven't heard the record yet:

Architecture in Helsinki
Beirut
Common
Dan Deacon
Grizzly Bear

Bad Religion - New Maps of Hell
The Crash That Took Me - Orchestrated Kaleidoscopes
Built To Spill - You in Reverse
Tim Armstrong - A Poet's Life
Golgol Bordello - Super Taranta!
