The Spree and FC Dallas once again.....

From Gorillavsbear:
The Polyphonic Spree has penned the new theme song for our (well, Frisco's) MLS squad, FC Dallas. I was a little confused as to why it's called "Hoops" (apparently that's FC Dallas' nickname?), but it turns out the Spree is well-suited for making stadium jams. Not sure what "There's no hiding from this Dallas, TX fame" means though:

I had talked with Pirro about this a few drunken weeks ago at Double Wide. Sounds about as fun as hanging out with the Inferno.

If I said the "H-O-O-P-S-Yes" parts were horrible, joyless and annoying, it would probably come off as sour grapes or something. . . but they are!
- Mere "reminds me of early 80s female punk pop chants, like when Blondie would rap -- or that terrible Christmas song (by the Waitresses, maybe?)" 1975

No. You aren't far off at all. I was thinking that they wrote down a list of words that sounded anthem like and wrote a song around it.

Who's going to do Toronto FC's theme? Broken Social Scene or the Barenaked Ladies?
Also, this is the worst sports anthem I've ever heard.

The "where in the world..." part makes me think "is Carmen San Diego" should come next.
Besides the fact that it's just not a good song (or maybe because of, but I don't think that's it) - It just seems like a mistake. Like, do they need the publicity that bad? What audience are they trying to go after? Oh! maybe people who like stale, half-hearted songs? The mash-up was one thing, but this just feels out of focus for them.
Meh.
...And I think Tim should consider trying some new vocal effects.

It's just a sports anthem, people! I can totally imagine this playing in a stadium as the team takes the field, or pitch, or whatever - very bouncy and upbeat and cheer-inducing.
As song on its own merits, well, I probably won't listen to it again.

As a sidenote, I loved the Barenaked Ladies show I went to 7-8 years ago.

Ugh, no. It's bad enough the fucking Inferno types sing the damn Dallas theme all the time at the games. If they play this at the game, I will boo. Were there no Oi bands available to do the whole league? The only one of the entire league's-worth of songs that is worth a rat's ass is the DC United song by Bad Brains.
Footie == Punk
Footie != ensemble folk-rock

Really?
I had almost the opposite reaction. I thought it was muddy and almost a bit of a downer. But you know, not all songs are art, nor are they meant to be. Perhaps it could have an audience somewhere.
