Oh happy day(s)!!!

Music, movies, entertainment, etc. Because James wanted it (and seems like a pretty good idea)

Pumpkins In Residence
Updated 08:06 PDT Mon, May 14 2007

The Smashing Pumpkins have announced two sets of residency gigs: nine shows at the Orange Peel in Asheville, N.C., (June 23, 24, 26, 27, 29, 30 and July 2, 3, and 5) plus eight shows at the Fillmore in San Francisco (July 22, 24, 25, 27, 28, 30 and 31 and August 1).

The band will vary set lists from night to night, performing songs from the upcoming album Zeitgeist, Pumpkins classics, plus unreleased material and tunes written the day of the show.

The concerts are designed to give fans a glimpse into the Pumpkins' creative process.

San Francisco dates mark the first time the band has played The Fillmore since April 1994.

The Asheville shows mark the first time the Pumpkins will have played a residency since their four gigs at the Double Door in Chicago in 1994, before the release of Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness.

Fans attending the Fillmore and Orange Peel shows are invited to capture the concerts with audio and video recorders.

General admission tickets for these all-ages shows go on sale Sunday, May 20. The San Francisco tickets ($25 each) and will be available at 10 a.m. Pacific time via ticketmaster.com and livenation.com.

For the Asheville show, tickets ($20 each) will go on sale at 1 p.m. Eastern at www.theorangepeel.net and www.ticketweb.com.

Tickets for both shows will be available through Internet only and will not be sold at the box offices, charge-by-phone or ticket outlets.

There is a two-ticket limit per person and the purchaser must pick up tickets at the box office night-of-show only.

Zeitgeist is set for release July 10 and is Billy Corgan & Co.'s first album of new material since 2000's Machina/The Machines of God and the free, digital-only release Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music.
The band's world tour gets under way May 22 in Paris.
I was at that 1994 fillmore show too, they reopened the fillmore after being closed for equake damage (retrofit). It was AWESOME!!!

Sounds fun, but I'm not sure I could see the Pumpkins again. I think I would get overly annoyed at the attendees.

hell, I've been overly annoyed at the pumpkins after a couple of bad gigs...time heals everything and I'm actually excited to see them (well half of them) again.

Pumpkins were indeed "Jeckyl and Hyde" when it came to the live show. I've seen them be completely awful, more than once (but Lollapalooza rings bells for me for an example), but when they played at Will Rodgers in Fort Worth touring "Adore" still ranks in my top 10 shows ever seen.

The residency is the best thing ever for a band. Get to stay somewhere for a while and actually have a look around, leave your equipment set up and by the third show, you don't even really need to do a soundcheck...

It'll be interesting to see what they end up playing...who is playing in the band these days? I don't think they all came back...or am I wrong?

Exactly my experience at the poolza show here...guess they were just cranky pants that tour in general. the next tour they'd were humble pie and made up for it 10 fold.

Not sure who else will be playing as only billy and jimmy are back together. Apparently they're gonna mix it up each night so you never know what songs you're gonna get. I kind of like the surprise of it. I'm really looking forward to seeing them again and I think (considering the way they're doing these shows) we're in for a treat. :D

I wonder why they chose Asheville. My dad lives there. It is beautiful, but not really a place I would immediately think that Smashing Pumpkins would be drawn to. They get a lot of jam bands/blue grass/folk/mountain music there.

I wish I could see them live again... Sadly, not dates in Scotland have been announced.

Yeah odd choice, I can't figure out why they chose that place either.

I think that venue is a favourite amongst bands to play. Plus, they gave em 9 nights in a row; lots of places won't do that for any band no matter who they are...

I'm not sure I'd want to see them on - say - night 7 of 11. You want them to be rehearsed, but I'd think it's hard to maintain much spontenaity / energy playing the same venue that many nights in a row, even if the set lis changes.

That said, if anyone wants to give me a ticket, yeah I'd want to see them any night.

I cannot wait to read the cynical blogs that will undoubtedly follow each show. Even if the blogger liked the show, he/she will have to pull the indier-than-thou attitude. It's going to be awesome.

I just praying my ticket buy thru the office doesn't get denied...wouldn't put it past those bastards I work for.

having said that, if all goes well I'm going towards the end of the run and I don't care. I'm certain I will enjoy it, no matter what songs I get. It's actually kind of fun to think you have no idea what you're gonna get that night.
