after last night, did anyone else get the impression that the island is all about having "daddy issues"?

ben, locke, jack, kate, sun, jin, hugo, sawyer, desmond ...

That does appear to be a pretty strong theme, now that you mention it. What camp of psychoanalysis does that put the island in?

Locke didn't really get much information about the secrets of the island. I wonder if Jacob will somehow retaliate against Ben now that John can't (apparently) provide the help that Jacob asked for, whatever that might be.

SOOOO many questions....

how can anyone hate charlie that much?
was the really walt or just a vision?
are the people on the boat really bad? and why did that women have penny's picture if penny was unaware of her? were they sent by penny's father? is he the big bad in all this? (here we go with the daddy issues!)
who was in the coffin? Locke, Ben, someone else?
is sawyer kate's boyfriend/husband? why is kate no longer a fugitive - did they manage to conceal her identity when they were rescued? or is she still on the run?
does anyone else care this much about the show?

i also have a theory that ben, like locke, has some disability that does not allow him to have a 'normal' life off the island

for the record - they better not get rescued, moving lost into the real world would suck - leave the real world to the flashbacks - the power of the show, and its underlying structure, would be lost (pun intended)

It dawned on me a few months back that it seems a common thread with everyone on the island has daddy issues!

*Jin embarrased of his father/Sun's father controlling his life
*Sawyer's dad killed his mother and himself
*Jack and his alcoholic dad
*Locke and his dad conning him out of a kidney
*Kate killed her dad (she thought he was just her step dad but turned out to really be her biological father right?)
*Ben and his abusive dad, blaming him for his mothers death
*Claire's dad is also Jack's dad

Last nights episode didn't really answer any of the big questions, it just opened more!

Why did the looking glass immediately send a transmission to penny? (she asked how Charlie got it)

Who indeed is on the freighter?

What work does Locke need to do?

Why is Jack suicidal after leaving?

Who was in the coffin?

Who and what is Jacob?

Why hasnt Richard Alpert aged in 20+ years?

Why is Ben, an outsider their leader.

I can go on and on.......

My theory is that they did really get rescued but like Gilligan's Island, they'll be stranded again within three days.

Don't forget: How is it that Jack's father is alive in the future but dead in the past?

When did they reference him being alive?

Oh, and Biff (one of my emps at work) brought up a good point... How do we know that all of the "flashbacks" from the previous shows weren't actually a mix of flashbacks and flash-forwards?

First one was to the other surgeon, "Go upstairs and find my dad and if I'm drunker than he is, you can fire me." Second time, he is in the drug store and he has his dad's Rx pad.

If some of those are flash-forwards, then who the hell does know what is going on? Very interesting possibility.

Also. . .

Did anyone else think that the future Jack looked like Roach in those sunglasses, with that scruffy beard?

- Mere "Sam and I did" 1975

AND. . .

How does that relate to the fact that on the island, the fathers have super powerful sperm and the mothers always die from the pregnancy?

- Mere "represented by? exaggerated by? not related at all? 1975

Could have been the oxycodone and bourbon talking.

That episode of Lost made my brain hurt.
That's almost exactly what my boss said yesterday morning when she came in to work. I guess we can only wait until next season or so to figure out just what in the hell might be going on.

I still think one of the big questions that will affect how the overall story goes is; are the Others part of what has replaced the Dharma initiative? If so, their influence goes far beyond the island. The whole deal with them "finding" the plane wreckage and Juliet's recruitment says to me that their organization is global. The counter to that is that Ben would have brought in more resources from the mainland to deal with the survivors. But maybe his arrogance led him to believe he could deal with it on his own.

Hell, I think the biggest question is where the fuck did the Others come from? The Dharma folks kept calling them "the natives," but are they really from the island or are they just the ousted remains of the original Dharma offering.

Is this whole mess a "Karma/Dharma full circle" thing where one group replaces the other and gains legitimacy (will the secrets of the Initiative be "shown" to the Oceana crowd if they ever take over?), or if it's just a random happenstance.
