I am psyched about Ted Leo. The single from their soon-to-be released album on myspace sounds pretty damned good.
ted is damn good live. his new one is different from the sound of hearts of oak/shake the sheets. it's more fleshed out, if that makes sense. it's really really good.

see you there!!

I am liking Wincing the Night Away more and more with each listen. I got the official thing from iTunes (my first whole album purchase, actually.)

I miss the album artwork, but damn it's convenient.

I think I might like this whole mp3 thing.

Well, I was there for those mighty Shins Monday night, but didn't see MereSam. The show was fabulous, but I am apparently far too old to stay out late listening to loud rock and/or roll music on a weeknight. My ears are still ringing and my head hurts, but it was worth it I think. Growing old is not for wimps.

I did see something I don't believe I have ever seen before - there was a couple standing next to me who brought their baby! And I mean a not-walking-yet baby. They had it in one of those portable cradle-carrying things on the floor up next to a barricade for most of the show - I didn't even realize it was there until close to the end when suddenly this man had a baby in his arms. I can only hope the poor thing was wearing earplugs. It was all I could do not to call Child Protective Services - I just had to walk away.

We were there, rocking moderately near the middle of the crowd.

I thought they sounded really good -- so, so much better than at Lollapalooza -- and not only did James Mercer welcome us, but I think he was smiling a bit too. (Notes for our James' James Mercer Suicide Watch notebook.)

We left a bit early too, since I had a stomach ache and Sam knew he'd be working a 20+ hour day on Tuesday.

Monday night shows stink, but I like the Palladium just fine!

Happens a lot at festivals. There were a lot of babies @ Rock Fest (which was when? 98?). That show was horrible, complete chaos (no clear walkways, blankets on the ground everywhere) in a crowd that I think was billed as 500k (?) and fucking ridiculous heat. I was surprized no one got hurt there that day.

Is anyone else seeing Ted Leo tonight at the Granada? The new album isn't as awesome as I was hoping.

It was a really good show. The songs that seem a little awkward to me on the new album worked well live. Does he have a bigger following elsewhere in these USs?

ok, saw the shins on monday night and will be seeing them again tonight (working both nights)...yeah back to my original thought...they just bore me. Their music is ok, but I just can't get excited by them. But I suppose if I actually liked them, it was a good show. (however, friends that went and do like them also said they were boring.

What I find kind of funny (odd) is that they're always in the media taking quirky photos and yet they don't seem to have a quirky bone between them.

I think Marty the keyboard guy is pretty quirky. Maybe?

well I will say that last nite (the last nite of their tour) they were much better than the previous 2 nites. They joked with the crowds and seemed loser than before. Much better show last nite.

I think he's usually been the difference between then they've been good and when they've been ok...if he's funny, they're very engaging. If he's not, they're pretty dull, unless you're into the songs, but I think even those suffer.

you might have something here...cuz I'm pretty sure it was him chatting last nite. He was pretty on it and that made for a better show all around.

It's definitely him, because he's the only one that ever talks.

At ACL back in the day, he had this funny thing going between songs that sonded like Shins commercials, with the overall theme being "Maximum Shins". It worked, because they played nearly all of the first two records in their time slot. It makes up for the fact the lead singer obviously has some sort of issue with being on stage...
