The uniforms are fine with me.
I just don't like it when things are so literal.

P.S.
I bet Michael Turner will like it that choir girls are showing more leg.

I was hoping for military uniforms closer to what Buster wore in season two of television's "Arrested Development."

"You can wear stripper clothes when you're not stripping?"
"YOU TELL ME!"
-edit- the picture is gone. I'm not going to fix it. If you don't know what I'm talking about, a visual aid wouldn't really have helped that much.

for all those that care, the show was tremendous. the energy in the granada was something i have not seen in a while at a show. lithium was off the hook.
the new 'uniform' was a nice change and gave the show a refreshed feel.
if the size and energy of the crowd was any indication, the talk of the imminent demise of the spork has been greatly exaggerated.

I'm seeing them tonight and I honestly have no idea what to expect.P.S.

I had always thought they made some really interesting choices with Lithium, not least of which was covering it at all. In much different ways than much of their audience has understood, it is a perfect and powerful song for them, on many levels. Though the original is unbeatable, I do think this cover is a success, and brings out a lot of the truth of the song without trying to replecate or fabricate the songwriter's own personal experience of it.
But I just can't stomach Mental Cabaret. Being the first new thing Ive heard from them since Lithium (and the redone Move Away and Shine, which I also loved, though I missed the vocal palatte of the original) in a year and a half, it was all I had to go on for what to expect out of tonight; then the photos of the uniforms, which I will not be able to evaluate until I see them in the show. But yesterday I heard I'm Calling, and with the exception of the soloed lead vocal in the verse, I connected to it almost immediately, and the chorus has been stuck in my head since. What to fully make of this new direction will be impossible until I see the show, which is now a mere 12 hours away, and I won't deny I'm pretty anxious about it.
EDIT: Then starting tomorrow, it's two nights of Sufjan back to back. Eat it, Dallas!!!

i've heard good things from both you and James and others about "I'm Calling," but no real description as to what it sounds like...
as for "Lithium," it's a beautiful song, and out of anything they've done since "wig in a box," it's catchy and wonderful and demands repeated listen. I just can't listen to TWH any more. i tried. it's just...soulless.
'mental cabaret' sounds like a band trying too hard to be something. what it is they're trying to be, i can't say.

"I'm Calling" sounds like Spork, except in about a 4 minute pop song with verses, choruses, and even a bridge! I'm trying to think what it sounds like, but it's very hook-laden and, as Michael said, hard to get out of the head. It's effortless, and obviously isn't trying to be something else.i've heard good things from both you and James and others about "I'm Calling," but no real description as to what it sounds like...

Having recorded on "Lithium", I find it unlistenable. I think it's because what I thought was going to be fierce turned into something that sounds a bit childlike with the vocals. Oddly enough, "Love My Way" turned into the fiercer one, and I like that one. I'm sure "Lithium" is an absolute rocker live though.
And TWH had a soul once, but I think it got lost in the mix. If you'd have heard the older versions, you might be inclined to agree.
