not.
The Bush administration today issued a sweeping new regulation that protects a broad range of health-care workers -- from doctors to janitors -- who refuse to participate in providing services that they believe violate their personal, moral or religious beliefs.
The controversial rule empowers federal health officials to cut off federal funding for any state or local government, hospital, clinic, health plan, doctor's office or other entity if it does not accommodate employees who exercise their "right of conscience." It would apply to more than 584,000 health-care facilities.

So, if I'm a Shaker pharmacist and my religion dictates celibacy, this new rule means I can deny filling that Viagra prescription for Bob Dole? Or I'm a nurse and your rightwing hate-mongering politics violate my moral code, this means I can deny you your chemotherapy for that pesky breast cancer? Cool.
The possible scenarios are limitless, and I hope some enterprising health care workers challenge this rule at every turn. Let the lawsuits begin!

What if I work in a lypo clinic and have a moral issue with sucking fat out of rich people while a third of rhe planet starves to death? Oh wait, not government funded.
Except - what about equal protection? How can you protect nurses at county hospitals but not private ones?
This will be repealed next month, yes?

I don't have a full grasp of how these regulations exactly work but I have come across news that states undoing these last-minute deals is very difficult and that's why presidents wait until the midnight hour to push them through.
I was appalled when I saw the list of regulations Bush is ramming through. The vast majority were glaringly in favor if Big Business. But then I saw the regs previous presidents put through and it made every one of them look like asshats.

don't you know it's what jesus would do. y'know, denying people their rights to healthcare and stuff. oh yeah and bailing out big business and hating on gay people and every minority group ever. yeah. it's what jesus would do, guys. jesus loves haters.

I will not give a lethal drug to anyone if I am asked, nor will I advise such a plan; and similarly I will not give a woman a pessary to cause an abortion.
