It's taking FOREVER!!

My favorite part of thanksgiving is the conversation that happens right after we eat every year.

Dad: Whoo-ee! I'm full.
Mom: I'm ready to take a nap.
(lots of head nodding)
Grandma: It's because of the turkey
Aunt: Oh yeah, there's that stuff in the turkey
Grandma: Yeah, what's that stuff called?
(lots of looking around, yelling to the other room to see if anyone remembers)
Me (from the other room, after much internal laughter and pointed stares with my siblings): It's tryptophan!!!
Everyone (in rounds): Oh! Tryptophan! Yeah! Tryptophan! Oh yeah! That's right!

I also love cornbread stuffing.

I'm thankful for my crazy family and crazy friends and for my health.

Its a little weird being away from it all, but my lovely husband bought me a turkey TV dinner to have for lunch today and my boss suprised me with a box of shortbread. (she said, i know its actually scottish and has nothing to do with thanksgiving, but happy thanksgiving anyway!)

I taught her how to make turkeys drawn from the outline of your hand, and she read the Thanksgiving entry on Wikipedia outloud to answer one guy asking, "Yo, whats up with Thanksgiving anyway?" (Yes, there are English people who say "yo!")

All in all its been a good day, and we'll celebrate properly (food wise) this weekend.

I'm very thankful for my family and friends and consider myself blessed.

Sorry you don't get Thursday and Friday off Amy. But glad you'll have a turkey feast this weekend. And the next time someone over there ask "yo what's up with Thanksgiving anyway?" just tell them we had to get away from your jive turkey ass, so we celebrate our escape!

Related - I saw a Food Network show (Road Tasted with the Neelys) that did a profile on a place in Brooklyn called The Jive Turkey. They only sell fried turkeys!
