New Addition...

Meet ______! Ok, we have a name in mind but we said we'd keep her a few days before making it official. She's rambunctous and whiney and she HATES being crated, but she's so sweet, she loves to play, and she's soft and squishy like a teddy bear. She's a blue healer / (golden) lab mix, she should end up about knee-high. Jasper seems to like her ok but he and Oogly both wish she would shut the eff up. I'm way too busy for a puppy right now so all the training work's going to fall to J for the time being. Feel sorry for him.

Yea puppies!

I WANT TO CARRY HER AROUND IN MY POCKET ALL DAY!!!

She IS adorable, and that will make up for any puddles, chewing or whining. Good luck to Jason!

By the way -- I recommend giving her a treat each time you put her in the crate. And leave it in the room where you and Jason are for a while, then move it out gradually if you want her in another part of the house.

My dogs RUN to their crates because they know they get a cookie.

why do the dogs go in a crate at night anyway? if they're house dogs, don't they just find a spot (like one of those comfy looking pet beds) and lay down for the night? I've never had a dog so I really don't understand the need for a crate (unless you have a hellion dog that is). My kitty just does her thing...which is usually just sleeping at the foot of my bed or her little comfy perch bed.

It's crate training. It's one of the best things I've ever learned when it comes to dog training. Check it out.

We were able to let Katie out and we dismantled her crate years ago.
Lola is about a 1.5 yr old and we have just now started letting her out during the day but she prefers to be in her crate at night. There's too many spooky noises that make her bark when it's dark.

Jasper doesn't sleep in his crate, he has a dog bed. But Jasper is fully housetrained and that's the difference.
I wouldn't mind her sleeping in our room, but then Jason and I wouldn't be able to get sleep, and that might inspire in us a murderous rage that would be detrimental to her health. Seriously, we can barely sleep through it as it is.

Ok, I don't like that web site because it basically says I'm a bad pet mom because 1. "puppies under six months of age shouldn't stay in a crate for more than three or four hours at a time," and 2. it's supposed to be several weeks before I leave her in the crate overnight. So what are you supposed to do with a puppy overnight and when you hve to work, just let them run loose? She lived her whole life til now outside, but I can't put her in the yard all by herself.

Baby gate her in a room with hard floors and a wee pad.

last time i had a puppy me and my brother had to keep it in our room till it was trained. our floor was all lined with newspapers and it smelled like shit and piss for a couple weeks but we didn't care because we really wanted that puppy. and we were like 12.
