It's the little things that make me happy

The "block captain" of our neighborhood just stopped by to pick up our neighborhood association check and drop off the association directory. As usual, it was someone squeezle and I hadn't met (we've lived here 5 years, but really don't like to mingle w/ these people). I'm pretty sure she was scared shitless. I had a hard time keeping a straight face while she told me crime was on the rise around our neighborhood, but not in it.
Once again, I think I got us increased surveillance for the house since they'll think we are doing unsavory things here.
Oh how I love North Dallas naiivite!

oh, didn't you hear? black people are cool now. it's those damn mexicans you have to watch out for these days.
ps. who do you think scared her more, justin...you, squeezle, or your motley band of roving kitties?

me. squeezle's in class and looks mostly respectable-like when not out (most ink is covered). The kitties are locked up in the back of the house because we are having major construction done on our kitchen. I, however, am her worst nightmare. I'm sure she's positive that I sell heroin at the elementary school at the end of the street.

a)I love how it's never IN our neighborhoods (that would lower property values) just the outside element trying to get in.
b)And unsavory is definitely the way to go! (Even if it's not all that interesting, it gives the people something to talk about. We love to keep 'em guessing.)

Oh, I totally believe her on this one. Our neighborhood is on the edge of one of the worst neighborhoods in Dallas. We, however, have a ton of cops living in our neighborhood and we pay a fee that helps support extra patrols through the few streets that make up our neighborhood. Without this, the fuckers would be breaking into our houses just like they are 3 streets over.

dallas is so effed up that way. i went to the spork christmas show in 2001, and it was weird, we drove through this scary-as-shit neighborhood, but then you go around a curve and it's this beautiful, picturesque street with tiny streets and cobbled sidewalks and stores for window-shopping and it all feels so...safe...even though it's surrounded by abject poverty.

my cousin got shot (and his boyfriend murdered) up around that area. that's one of the main reasons i don't like dallas.

That's us. We're the dividing line with all the cliches. The ones up the hill and on the right side of the railroad tracks expect us to be the buffer. When they went to redistrict the city, the crap hit the fan - us because we knew we would be on the wrong end of services, them because we couldn't keep them in the lifestyle with which they were accustomned to. Especially, if we bailed.
I just get bored with the scare tactics (and the racism is really prevalent though covert in our "progressive" nieghborhood.)
