yeah, I watch his and her shows, but yeah he's pretty much right. EXCEPT not everyone can be a julia child and people should be able to make simple recipes to enjoy at home. I just cook, I don't get out the cookbook to make some fancy french recipe.

AND on his show, he's eating lots of food prepared by average people not julia child types. so yeah he's just drunk.

I would give a testicle to travel with Tony Bourdain.

Also, Rachel Ray should be boiled in her damn EVOO.

Yeah, somehow I think you might be disappointed. so don't be so quick to give up body parts.

ray is annoying true, but I can handle her in 30 min doses. I only watch her foodtv show.

He's funny, but he's a real snob.

He probably is, but his disdain for Rachel Ray is well documented. He called her endorsement of Dunkin Donuts "evil."

And I guess he is a snob of sorts - he's a selctive snob. Which I think I'd have to admit I am too. His book on Typhoid Mary is pretty devoid of snobbery. He's a snob about authenticity, not finery. And I'd rather have a meal (or better yet a drink!) by or with him than 50 by or with Rachel.

Well, I LOVE Rachel Ray! Her 30 minute meal show, not all the other crap she does.

And I got the best Christmas dinner from her - it's a 60 minute meal that only takes me 3 hours to do, and I've made it the last 2 Christmases to rave reviews. So there! (I'm sticking out my tongue at all of you.)

I think I have that saved on my DVR. I haven't watched or tried it yet though.

I'm on Bourdain's side here. However, I'm a little confused with how they set up his travel show. The episode in Spain is all super-foodie, best-new-cuisine-in-the-world and the episode for the Southwest US is an Alice Cooper diner, Amarillo steak house, Ted Nugent bullshit. Is he supposed to be a smarter Guy Fieri or a real food critic or what? I mean, how can he ignore Santa Fe, for instance, and then claim to be a real food critic/travel reporter.

because Sam, he's just as much a slave to the media/show/machine as Ray is. don't let his "rock n roll" smoking, drinking mofo attitude fool you. he's basically making a show that they think people want to see. sometimes it's a hut in the jungle sometimes it's the best of the best. And they've got my number...I love watching his travels. But he's not the end all american 'good' traveler and I'm not fooled.

I agree with you Sybil, Rachel's meals are quick and easy and therefore anyone could make them. How many people are going to attempt the super foodie foams and freeze dried crystal made in spain? or the buried bush meat? none.

Gotta disagree. At least Bourdain was an actual CHEF before he was a *celebrity* chef. He got famous becuase he wrote a good book, not because of his bubbly personality.

Far be it from me to imply that ANY celebrity isn't a fame whore - I think they pretty much all are, but I respect where he came from a lot more than where she did.

True, yes he's got cred as a chef. Don't deny that, but I just think that something has to be said for a real method of cooking that anyone can follow. People aren't going to attack french recipes on a daily basis, but some inspiration of quick ideas is welcoming.

I know Ray is annoying and her voices grates, but I think it's a good concept. Perhaps if there were a better person hosting this concept people wouldn't be so against it.

I mean at least she's not Sandra big boobs blond and her semi homemade.

The machine (ie producers) just need to make up their minds. Is he a snob at a roadside attraction or a boozer at a 5 star spot? Either can work but switching back and forth won't, especially with Guy Fieri covering the roadside spots already.
