Bon and I are headed up there in August. Any suggestions? Areas to hit or areas to avoid?

We're totally unfamiliar with the place. Our goal is to have fun and not die.

Hell I can handle. But if you said it was as bad or worse that Houston... you'd have my attention.

easily. Rudest people I've ever encountered.

That cow was actually doing the world a favor.

Jackie's friends are right -- not sure why people were so rude during Justin's visit!

I <3 Chicago.

When Sam and I went 2 Augusts ago, we came home and started scouring real estate in the area, because we liked it so much. (Of course, October - March is pretty dreary, so I probably won't really ever go back.)

- Wicker Park area seemed awesome and ecclectic and funky, but not overly so
- Gino's East or Giordano's stuffed crust pizza
- architectural boat tour of Chicago (there are some amazing buildings from world-class designers)
- Shedd Aquarium is great
- Art Institute of Chicago (not like the Art Institute of Dallas, sadly) is a-mazing

Let me think. . .

Just watch Ferris Bueller and High Fidelity for inspiration!

justin's crazy. i went at the end of april (against his recommendation, mind you) and absolutely loved it. :)

high points:
- architectural boat tour
- the art institute
- the lincoln park zoo (it's free! so i went by a second time, just to say hi to the polar bears)
- shopping in bucktown and wicker park
- people watching at millennium park (especially all of the kids splashing around in crown fountain)
- chinatown (but then again i always like chinatowns)

i actually took a trolley tour the first day to get oriented, but it's really easy to get around. i went by myself just for fun and would go back in a heart beat -- minus the few minutes i felt were stolen from my life by the monstrosity that is navy pier....

We'll def look into that! We're celebrating 20 years of friendship. We met in August '88 in Hong Kong. So at least dinner in Chinatown would be appropriate.

If you find yourself in the western suburbs, I recommend Yu's in Schaumberg.

amy just picked up the untouchables for me to watch, forgot that high fidelity was set there as well. we'll be there for a few days either side of 23rd August for a family wedding.
