i watched that whole thing and am gonna show kristina. it's no autism the musical, but it's still pretty effing cool.

in my museum studies class in college, we put together an exhibit by a local autistic artist, jessy park. she paints buildings in really wild colors with crazy accuracy.

savants are awesome.
dread stuff

A lot!

I wish I could have that drawing.

I recorded Autism the Musical, but deleted it after just watching a bit of the center. Maybe I'll record it again. You liked it, Katie? And not just because it contained musical theatre??

My nephew is autistic and has a crazy bear-trap memory for peoples names. It's really, really weird. Especially when he points out complete strangers in public and says "That's a Karen". It's happened more than a few times. It really freaks out these folks because they've been alone and no one has used their name around him. The only thing they (the strangers and my brother & sis-in-law) can figure out is somewhere before he's come across the person and heard their name used.

It's really hard not to make him my most favorite of all the little cousins.

P.S. The older girl in the musical has similar traits to my nephew in that when he speaks it's like it has been prerecorded.

i haven't watched the whole thing yet. my roommate kristina is a social worker who specializes in autistic children, and she had gone to bed, so we are waiting for a common time to watch together. i saw the beginning and was basically peeing my pants.

My friend's son sounds like that, too -- kind of robotic and monotonous?

That's part of it. You can ask a question like "Would you like to go to the store with me and buy some orange juice?" and instead of a simple yes he would answer "Yes. I would like to go to the store with you and buy some orange juice. Tropicana pure premium orange juice has amazing, straight-from-the-orange taste."

And then he would repeat that all day.
