I think I am finally feeling like a real Texan, because I read this and thought, "COOOOOL!"
US officials say dead satellite will be shot down
Associated Press - February 14, 2008 12:23 PM ET
WASHINGTON (AP) - U.S. officials say the Pentagon is planning to shoot down a broken spy satellite expected to hit the Earth in early March.
The Associated Press has learned that the option preferred by the Bush administration will be to fire a missile from a U.S. Navy cruiser, and shoot down the satellite before it enters Earth's atmosphere.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the options will not be publicly discussed until a Pentagon briefing later Thursday.

amen! i absolutely hate dr. strangelove. i was forced to watch it in like 3 different classes and my ex was obsessed with it and made me watch it a few times, insisting each time that i would find it funny this time. made me wanna poke my eyes out.

Yeah I'd hate it too if I went through that. I only saw it once and I didn't already know that last scene was coming. So It hought it was cool. But I don't think it's
funny... at least not funny ha ha. It's so just absurd it's iconic.

The thing that's great is that it has like 1000 pounds of dangerous rocket fuel onboard or something that could be a potential environmental hazard, and the guy from NASA who was on CNN was like, 'there's basically nothing we can do that can make this any worse. we can only make it better by shooting missiles at it.'
Parapharasing, of course.

i hear this is to test how well we can shoot down a satellite, so that should we want to ruin another country's ability to engage in business and communication we can do so.
like maybe certain armies we're fighting. or armies we don't want to fight who have nuclear abilities. (north korea. russia. india.)

honestly, this is how we level the playing field with China. They shoot down satellites with missiles all the time.
