summary of trip so far:

steph barfed, i cleaned it up
saw factory girl (better than i expected)
bought lots of stuff
idiot on broadway tried to put his snake on steph (literally)
idiot landlord has heat on 150 degrees

smelly man on subway standing too close
nice cab driver

there's a whole foods at columbus circle (underground). amy got excited when we saw it on our trip. i don't know if they sell dr pepper but it might be a bit more normal.

grocery stores suck. they never have everything you need and their stuff is usually like 1 second away from expiring. or its a gourmet place and everything is ridiculously expensive. im gonna go to the farmer's market one day, but its just annoying. you cant walk to the store and get what you need. so you either have to go all over to different places and take groceries on the subway (annoying and heavy) or give up and eat out all the time.

p.s. thats funny cause i was looking for a chase today so i wouldnt have to pay an atm fee.

What about all those little grocery stores run by immigrants? I thought they were supposed to be all over the damn place.

Hey Dalya... there is a really good book called Not For Tourists Guide to New York. Lots of maps and locations of useful things like ATMs. Well worth picking up a copy, especially if you move there.

Ahh, that makes sense. A rocking fork no less. I suppose we must forgive the fork for it's association with the Hard Rock Cafe. That doesn't imply any forgiveness towards the Hard Rock itself.

My synopsis of NYC is; great place to stay for a limited time (from vacation up to schooling) but not a great place to live without significant financial resources. Professionally, there are a handful of things that you can do there that you can only do a handful of places in the world (mostly related to performing arts and broadcasting). If you don't fall into one of those categories, I would doubt the trade-offs would make sense.

One day I'll visit NYC. On the way from Basking Ridge NJ to the Newark airport last month I wanted desparately to veer the car across three lanes of traffic towards the skyline, but I wasn't driving, and my coworker didn't have the guts, and she said we had no business going there. At least I've seen it now, so I know it's really there.

sigh.

I'm with you Sunny, I haven't been either (UGH) and really want to go, I just get sidetracked with my vacation.

That's why you can get just about everything delivered in NYC. I don't know if or how much they charge, though.

I have a friend from high school who attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts there for a year (with Adam Baldwin from "My Bodyguard" and Kevin Spacey-who went on to Julliard).
