Is anyone giving anything up for Lent? A friend of mine is giving up beer, which is going to be interesting since he is the wine and beer steward at Central Market. It would be like working in a candy shop and giving up sugar for 40 days. He was extra sad when we reminded him that he wouldn't be able to drink (green) beer on St. Patrick's Day.

I give up parades for Lent every year.

And I aknowledge the fact that it's not much of a sacrifice, since I don't really like parades anyway - but it counts as a sacrifice anyhow, cuz it's symbolic of all the other sacrifices I don't intend to make.

squeezle and I have a friend who often gives up mysogeny for Lent.

At least the beer at Central Market is in bottles and isn't flowing. I think that would make it easier- somewhat. :?

He couldn't give up wine because he has to drink it at work. Poor baby.

I observe the lenten season each year though i rarely give up anything.

One little known fact is that you are allowed to partake in whatever you are giving up on sundays. sundays are not included in the 40 days.

christianity is weird.

shouldnt you technically give all that stuff up forever, not just a month? all the things people give up are deadly sins anyway - gluttony, greed, being a dirty STD-filled whore. i cant think of anything harmless that people give up for lent. i guess you could give scrapbooking, if you really like scrapbooking.

i suppose i'll give up my daily abortion. and maybe give up being jewish. and a woman. vote for dalya in 08.
