Most people who give up red meat but not chicken or fish aren't doing it for humanitarian reasons but because of the health benefits of giving up red meat. It has nothing to do with cows are better than chickens.

Oddly enough, there was a long documentary on PBS this weekend on the subject of cows. I only watched a bit of it. It did seem that the dairy farmers were generally much more attached to their livestock. I guess that shouldn't be surprising, though. They also seemed a lot more prosperous than the ranchers.

i want the whole chicken/fish thing being okay explained to me.

it's still flesh, even if it's not technically called meat and it was still a living thing. i'm sure cows have done alot more damage to alot more people than chickens too.

don't kill a cow but kill a chicken? what's the point
its NOT ok.

i know many people that call themselves 'vegetarian' but still eat fish which is a load of crap.

bottom line: if you eat the flesh of any living, breathing creature you are not a vegetarian. however, dairy, eggs, and cheese are acceptable.

vegans take it a step further and do not ingest anything that comes from an animal. no eggs, cheese, or dairy.

I must say, I don't have any qualms about eating shrimp, oysters, scallops, or clams.
