I had moved from Ohio to Florida on the 8th...drove down with a cat, dog sleeping bag and some work clothes. The family was to fly down the next weekend...The 10th was my forst day of work...obviously the 11 was my second...I didn't know a soul. Ruth calls me from my parents house crying, to say that she just watched a plane slam into the secons tower opn live TV. I guess the Today show had cut to a shot of the WTC to see what was ging on just as the second plane hit. I try to get on cnn.com but they were slammed. Ended up watching on a tiny TV on the Net Ops shop just as the towers fell. I cried with total strangers becaus emy family wasn't there. My boss let me leave on Thursday to drive up to Ohio and bring my family back...there was no way in Hell they were getting on a plane (as there were no planes flying the rest of the week...)
Does anyone remember how creepy it was looking up in the sky and not seeing one single airplane?
where were you on 9/11?

That was the weirdest part for me; it was the most tangible evidence that something had happened. Watching it on TV can just seem so surreal. I lived and worked within a few miles of DFW then, I used to sometimes count the planes on my way home, there were usually seven to ten I could see in the air at one time.Does anyone remember how creepy it was looking up in the sky and not seeing one single airplane?
i was in 6th grade and i was sitting in my "homeroom" class and my teacher told us. at the time i had no idea just how serious it was or exactly what she was saying meant. i was like "uh... world trade centers what? i have no idea what that is..." and then my mom had been at a funeral that morning and picked me up early from school afterwards and explained it to me. but yeah, i remember looking up in the sky and not seeing anything...
myles' and his friend's birthday is on 9/11... that has to suck.

We had made plans to celebrate my son's birthday on the weekend after 9/11. It was a very surreal experience. You had a ton of 4, 5 and 6 year old kids running around ecstatic from a party and zipping on birthday cake surrounded by parents with sad expressions and hushed conversations.
It was very much like Christmas of '99 when my grandmother died on Christmas Eve.
Two extreme emotions taking place at the same time.

The teachers and stuff at my school didn't make much of a big deal about it, so I didn't really understand what was happening until after I got home.
We went to visit my mom's sister in new jersey the last week before school started. My uncle worked in one of the surrounding buildings that was expected to collapse (but wasn't in new york yet when it happened, don't worry). He took us to NY on a tour, and we were going to the top of the towers but never had time to. I really wish we went.

Mr. Teskey basically told our Grade 7 class this would probably be one of the most important things to happen in our lifetimes. The teachers and stuff at my school didn't make much of a big deal about it, so I didn't really understand what was happening until after I got home.
