cracks about making willie nelson this
Since when is renewable energy a joke? Willie Nelson wants to make biodiesel widely available, and that sounds like a good idea to me.
when i head through carl's corner my golf gets a fresh tank of bio-willie.

oh, there's nothing at all wrong with renewable energy; my sister has a biodiesel mercedes. the industry is in its infancy, and it's wound up costing her more to have the car than it has to have a regular car. but willie is a big investor in the energy source, and while the making of money is not a bad thing, should that person be given public office to make his millions from? i dont think so.

I'm signed up for the Kinkster. My feelings about the whole matter are that he might not be the most "qualified" (hell, the gov. of TX isn't much more than ceremonial anyway), but if it shakes up the way people look at the governor's seat then I'm all for it. Kinky is pretty ballsy about a lot, and I think he'd do a bang-up job.

I hate to agree with Joe ;), but I think Kinky's a joke, too. Just because that's all I've ever heard from him: jokes. It may be a perception problem (or an underlying media problem), but the only times I've come in contact with the guy has been in the grocery store, either his doll in the toy isle or his face on some wacky product - chili or salsa or something.

Agreed. For those of you outside of Texas, the Lieutenant Governor holds the real power in state politics. Bush was a decent Governor because it suited his strong points; fund-raising and rallying the troops (He did get the new baseball stadium built in Arlington that was originally met with contempt, so he's gotta be pretty good). When he, and a lot of others were governor, it was Bob Bullock (RIP) that was getting it done. Though technically a dem he was above parties and went with whoever had the better idea. And he was no bullshit. Which is probably why he got 80% of the vote every single time.

I used to read kinky's stuff in the back of texas monthly, he is more than jokes. I think he's just being silly right now to get people's attention, get in their heads and remember that he's out there. the election is a ways away.

www.kinkyfriedman.com

Kinky and Carole Keeton Strayhorn are running as independents, so they each need 45,540 signatures in order for their names to appear on the ballot.

Rick Perry is running for reelection, obviously, and Chris Bell won the democratic primary.

The election is in November. Get registered here: www.votexas.com

I would say that Kinky's campaign is supposed to be a joke. What I mean by that is not that it isn't a real campaign, but that the only way he can win is by keeping the focus on the absurdity of the current system. A conventional campaign would eventually get bogged down in irrelevant particulars. This approach keeps the bullshit ammo that party PR dicks use out of reach. Its a joke, but could be deadly serious. Specific policy talk to make voters more comfortable with Kinky as the actual Governor would only come at the very end. Now he is just building recognition.
