I actually think it's often easier to eat heathy if you're NOT a vegetarian; at any restraunt, but especially fast food, a grilled chicken sandwich isn't as hard to come by as a veggie burger. And while I use to have no problem with it, now I absoloutly refuse to pay the full price of a salad that comes with chicken and have them hold the chicken.

Also, as unhealthy as Americans supposedly are, we all know this isn't what people are typically having for dinner. It's 'stunt food.'

It's true Sunny, I went the other day to meet the girls at the Cheesecake Factory. That was my first time there and I of course was not leaving without having cheesecake, so I decided to order the "weight management" meal (under 600 cals), it was actually super tasty, but was thinly pound chicken on a scoop of rice (like 1/4 cup if that) greens lightly tossed in vinaigrette, chopped tomato, and asparagus. Now if you'd order that w/out the chicken there wouldn't have been much there. They had other nice salads tho, but that was pretty much the veggie option (as one friend is a veggie). Thankfully the 4 of us split the slice of huge yummy cheesecake. Honestly, I did NOT need to ever find out about that place, luckily the location is not one I go very often, so I'm safe.

I will note that I saw these two fellas with british accents sitting next to me on vaca, order the larges plats of fried food I've ever seen. Looked like a mix bag of maybe seafood, not sure as it was all battered and deep fried. I guess that's what you do when you come to the US on holiday. :?

dallas actually has a surprising amount of vegetarian options. i have been able to eat within my restrictions at just about everywhere we've gone. obviously, most fast food is an exception (though bk does veggie burgers and cabana has everything). i eat a good amount of veggie burgers and grilled cheeses while out and about.

my main dietary concern is making sure i get enough protein and that i don't overkill on carbs. so i eat a lot of protein bars and duct tape my mouth shut when i have pms.

A friend of mine is married to a girl who opened/owns two vegan resturants -- both called Spiral Diner. They are supposed to be really good. The first one was opened in Ft Worth and now there is one in Oak Cliff.

cosmic cafe.
I used to go on my lunch break every once in a while. My co-workers weren't keen, so I would go on my own and sit on the porch with some chai and veggie curry. Very relaxing. Love that place.

Not to mention some of the "unsavory" characters that used to frequent/work at that place.

I heard about Spiral Diner being great for years and never went because - even though I hated the bias so many people have toward vegetarian food - I just couldn't get excited about any place that didn't have real cheese.

Found out about 3 years ago how wrong I was, and I take back every nasty thing I've ever said about Veganaise (but not about vegan cookies / cupcakes, bleck). Unfortunately both restaurants are at least a 20 minute drive for me, and at least 40 from the office. But I could make it on a Saturday!

A few weeks ao my mom made me go to a quilt show with her, and in retaliation I forced her to eat at Spiral with me. Ran into my friend's babydaddy, apparently he works there!
