of course, nowadays, you buy the Presidency. After all, Obama did, too. I'm not knocking his character, but he did have a substantially bigger wallet than McCain.
Yeah, like how often does a Democrat get the chance to spend more on a campaign than a Republican?
I haven't had my coffee yet so I'm only picking one thing to comment on (so far).

Exactly Tracy! I normally do not support the vast amounts of cash candidates spend on elections, I understand that's the way it is now and it's probably not ever going to change again especially after this election. However, Obama did something the Republicans haven't been able to in a very long time if ever...hell, Democrats probably either before now. He got America to invest in him, his ideals, his goals. Sure big money came from different places, but that doesn't negate that the average person (like me) did something they NEVER would have in the past and coughed up some hard cold (and not so plentiful) cash. I don't even donate to elections on my taxes because I've never felt it would serve any purpose that would benefit me. So I suppose over a 20 year voting history, if I average out what I donated to Obama, it's not that bad, spread out over 20 years. And apparently, my money helped on some level, perhaps it supported an add in Florida, that would be nice.

oh yeah and Bush is a dumbass ( just had some more coffee). I really didn't know him much before his first run, sure I knew his dad, but not him. I only hated him the moment he stepped onto the presidential platform. the guy is and always has been an idiot. Honestly, I'm sure he's CHOMPING at the bit to get the hell out of the whitehouse. He's more than thru with this job. Sadly for him and us, it's not a job you can quit once hired.

So not true. Nixon did it, and it's provisioned for in Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution (cemented by the 25th Amendment). I'd say that it would be scary for Cheney to be President, but I think he really has been for the past 7 years or so and that it's not a worry because he actually died 8-15 months ago.

Dang, we would have had Nancy Pelosi for a while now -- at least through the summer. That would have broken a barrier, but with an asterisk.

last i checked, we were allowed to be in disagreement with the president. i also agree with justin that there was a pre-conceived bias against bush, at least on my part (and on the part of many others i know). i disagree with the article saying that bush isn't responsible for the way people view him in this country and in the world. i truly believe he was influenced strongly by the people in his cabinet and i could even get behind the idea he may have been lied to a time or two. but these are people HE put into positions, and when it comes down to it, HE had the final decision on a lot of issues on which i have fundamental disagreements with him. i also resent his use of religion as a means to achieve an end.

i DO think a lot of anti-bush people oversimplify the issues and just want to make him into a devil and bitch about how awful he is. i don't really believe anyone is inherently good or bad, and i don't think bush went into the iraq war with a desire to kill young americans. i don't think he wanted the economy to collapse. but i do think that he has made a series of poor choices that have negatively affected the country, and i will not be sorry at all to see him lose his grip on america. our standing in the world is shit right now, and a lot (not all, but a lot) of the blame can be given to bush for that.

and the surge i felt on 9/11 was not about support of bush, it was about support of my country. i feel like my attitude towards bush would be a lot different if we went after the person responsible for the 9/11 attacks instead of fighting for a stronghold on the world's oil. i'm looking forward to our exit strategy.

It may come as a shock to both sides to know that there is significant evidence that you can't buy elections.

I get more concerned with the source of the funding.

Obama
McCain
Bush 2004

and then there's this: obama's money from the evil big mortgage companies

I bought the election with 5 bucks. and I got some nice buttons out of the deal.

that would be a cool video, cutting from person to person, you know different colors and looks, saying I bought the election, cut to the next one saying it, maybe even through in some harvard big wigs, bill gates, that asian dude from google, all saying "I bought the election"...

mr j, your candidate lost. you got to get over it.
