Looks like daughter will go unaccompanied to Washington University on a Sunday and return on a Monday night. She said they'd make travel arrangements for a parent but not accommodations. I'm sure she'll be fine without one of us for a day so I don't think I'll go. She'll have a host and stay on campus for a full day. That Monday's State Fair Day so she won't miss any school.

I found out that she can change her "1st choice" school up until May 31 and also that the list of semi-finalists was released to newspapers and can be announced tomorrow - Sept. 10. According to the packet of information we picked up, out of 16,000 Semifinalists, about 15,000 will advance to Finalist and then 8,200 to Merit Scholar awardees.

She's started getting all these offers for fee-waived applications with no essays and she wants to apply to all of them because she doesn't have to write. (Although she normally likes to write.)

Huh. weird. At my school they just announced it in chapel. I think we found out before it was published. Her guidance counselor doesn't know the cut-off between semifinalists and finalists yet?

From the schedule and deadlines sheet I was given, school principals find out status of their Semifinalists February 3 and "NMSC notifies Finalists of their status at their home address" on February 10.

She will advance to Finalist, the only way she won't is if she doesn't turn her stuff in or she gets arrested.
