the footie pool part II

I thought about making it "shport" in general, but I really don't care about the others.

the footie pool part II

Postby aquaphase » Tue Jun 27, 2006 7:23 pm

So I was sitting here today coding my brains out, listening to some righteous punk and allowing my mind to wander (as I am apt to do) and began to think about the awesome World Cup pool we have going here (http://www.forkerscentral.com/WC for those of you not in the know).

My thoughts were (I know... thinking... shocking) that it would be damn easy to spin this out and just build a little Forkers footie portal to have pools for the major leagues out there. I'll drop the Premiership in there as well as next season's MLS along with any other leagues anyone else would like to take a crack at. All of the basic code is there, so it really wouldn't be too much work on my part (except the keeping up with scores for several hundred games, but I pretty much do that all the time anyway).

Would anyone be interested? I'd like to go with the same conditions we have for this one: pick the win or the draw. It seems to be both challenging and aggravating all at the same time. The only real difference is that I think I am going to try and wrap everything to just plain ol' GMT to standardize the timing (hell, I might even go to @beat time just because it's universal).

Any takers?

well this is the internet bible for non league fixtures and results:

http://www.btinternet.com/~tonykempster/

wessex prem or 1 could be a good bet, as the scores are reliably randomish (wessex 2 is a bit up in the air as some of the teams may not start the league). have to confess to some local knowledge on these ones though...

we could adopt this league which is a local league (below the non league)

they've got some great team names too - Dringhouses,Pocklington Town, Wigginton Grasshoppers although sadly it appears that Malton Bacon Factory no longer have a team :(

Romario is playing in one of the lower leagues for Miami FC. He's in Dallas today taking on Roma FC.

Not a bad working retirement really. Or maybe he blew his money on whatever rich Brazilians really like. I can only imagine.

this sounds really familiar... someone on some board when he signed with miami brought it up. and the miami ladies don't hurt.

The only kind of Footie Pool I like is the one that Sam got me for my birthday (or was it Christmas?) a while back.

they play in a rec league, the players pay to play, and now they're moving on to play an MLS club. Kinda cool.
