pitchfork's best videos of the 90s

Music, movies, entertainment, etc. Because James wanted it (and seems like a pretty good idea)

surprised that smells like teen spirit was so middle of the table and that foo fighters is directly ABOVE it. happy to see in bloom got some cred, though. i love that missy elliott video, and the busta rhymes one. rabbit in your headlights shoulda been higher, imo, and that's coming from one of seven people in the world who doesn't like radiohead or thom yorke.

i was gonna say that it's a travesty the christopher walken/fatboy slim video wasn't on there, until i realized it was not released in the 90s. whew.

I'm glad they picked "Come to Daddy" as number one (I have a few Alex James masks and I used to wear one at my radio station all the time because it freaked people out), but the rest of the countdown is sketchy. In typical Pitchfork style it looks like they picked out a solid 25 and then put all of the random "elitist" stuff they think everyone should have been listening to in the middle: that shitty ODB video, for example. Great song, horrible video.

Tonight Tonight?

I mean, I actually didn't care for it that much, but I remember it was EVERYWHERE, and everyone acted like it was such a work of genius - 15 years later it doesn't even make the list?

Also, ...Baby One More Time?

I kinda wish they're explained a little about their criteria, maybe these exclusions would make more sense - unless they're there and I'm just blind?

Welcome to Pitchfork. They are so elite that their "best of" list is full of obscure tracks. This is so par for the course that it reminds me why I quit reading them 6 years ago.

<-- has never cared what Pitchfork had to say about anything, so I won't be clicking on that link as I already know it's full of shit.

i thought this list was pretty accurate for the 90's mtv, I watched lots of 120 minutes, alternative nation and amp.
Also happy about the sonic youth video, I had a thing for the girl in the nirvana shirt. had no idea who nirvana was at the time though.

well, i like Milky, and i think that the Blur video shoulda been in the top ten. true, it's not one of their well-known hits, but then again, the list is about best "videos," not songs....

Also: Tori Amos' God. We could totally make a better list.

haha, or there were only 50 spots. some good ones have to be left off!

then again, pitchfork's heyday was far before my time so idgaf about how mainstream or elitist it is today. it's always been irrelevant to me in the same way most magazines of other people's opinions are.
