Love that!

Re: Never Gonna Give Up Your Teen Spirit
what i love about the video is that there are some coincidental things that link them together...the color tone of Rick's at time matches Nirvana's (and at times casts a reddish shadow as if he's truly facing the audience), and his dancers are wearing outfits that are similar to the anarchist cheerleaders.
that, and that the mash-up is superb.

It makes me stabby.
Aslo: I never really thuoght about it before but that Rick guy's an ass. "You wouldn't get this from any other guy?" = "You'll be alone FOREVER if you don't accept me right now."

What I loved was the anticipation at each turn to see just how oddly in tune the next verse would be. . . and the bridge. . . and the chorus.

It's true, l haven't heard that song in a while and I couldn't help but think (for the first time) the guitar in the very beginning sounded vaguely Skinnard. Listening now it sounds kinda surf-rocky.- Mere "and moreover, it goes to show that the 'anti-pop' grunge anthem to end all grunge anthems might just be a beautifully crafted version of an old, successful pop song structure" 1975
Yeah I know nothing about music really.

Re: Never Gonna Give Up Your Teen Spirit
to me it sounds like Boston's "More than a Feeling."
There's a famous story where Uncle Tupelo is listening to an advance of Nevermind but throw it out the tour van window, stating it was nothing more than a Paula Abdul record. kinda have to agree with 'em on that. to me it's my least favorite Nirvana record.

Re: Never Gonna Give Up Your Teen Spirit
fun fact: Geffen released this song in the mid-summer of 1991, with a guitar melody that borrowed from Boston's "more than a feeling." it was a huge hit...in Canada. Not so much in the USA, because...well, doesn't it sound like another guitar melody that was popular that fall?
Re: Never Gonna Give Up Your Teen Spirit
nevermind certainly isn't my favorite nirvana record, but it's the one that brought them to the world so it has its merits in its own way. kurt's strongest suits were lyrics and melody, and both those certainly shine on nevermind, regardless of its commercial appeal and overproduction.
and i believe this mashup is one of my favorites i've seen because it was surprising, funny, and included two things i love: nirvana and rickrolling.
