Shins in Blimey

Music, movies, entertainment, etc. Because James wanted it (and seems like a pretty good idea)

Shins in Blimey

Postby mere1975 » Tue Apr 18, 2006 6:31 pm

I know some of you British kids like The Shins. . . especially those of you with big blue eyes (that means you, Maidments.)

They're going to be in London, Nottingham, Camber Sands and Oxford coming up in May.

We were chatting to the main promoter in Oxford a couple of months ago and he was asking us whether the Shins were any good and were they worth booking? We said yes and yes. So, he booked them and we're going to the gig later this month, sould be ace :)

Well, it should have been ace, but it wasn't, it was (to borrow a phrase from airboy) "meh". Despite being really good musicians and writing ace songs, the gig was uninspiring and (dare I say it) a bit boring. Maybe I would have enjoyed it if I'd been more than a casual fan, but it certainly didn't live up to my expectations. I'll stick to the albums in future :)

Sorry to hear it, Helen!

I have seen them twice now (and once on TV - Austin City Limits) and I loved it both times. Plenty of witty banter between songs and they sounded great. That's just too bad!
:(

Probably not. They're really hit or miss...kinda like Television is either spellbindingly amazing or torturously hideous, so goes The Shins. I've seen them in both respects. They could be getting worse because that singer is quite reclusive and IMO a candidate to jump off a bridge at some point. It all depends on how funny the keyboard player is...

Sorry Helen, they're not always meh live. It's unfortunate because this is newish territory to them

I feel slightly better knowing that I'm not the only one who thought they were a bit, well, distant. It was a sell out crowd too, so I was expecting a bit more ooomph.
