amanda palmer - oasis

Music, movies, entertainment, etc. Because James wanted it (and seems like a pretty good idea)

That was remarkably fun. I imagine Brian Viglione slit his wrists when this came out.

I think the thing you don't like about her voice might be exactly what I do like. I'm not sure if this is a very good comparison but I haven't been able to put my finger on who her voice reminds me of, and the closest I've come is the girl from Concrete Blond. The music is very different though...

I also like the sort of almost overarticulated quality of her lyrics.

not all her music is like that, though. she's got a pretty wide range and her fucking voice can do ridiculous things. her lower range is stunning. for rizzle.

Benatar, yes.

But the Waitresses, definitely no.
Chrissie Hynde, no.
Patti Smith, no.
Jonnette Napolitano from Concrete Blonde, no.
Blondie yes, but rapping Debbie Harry in "Rapture," no way!
'Til Tuesday-era Aimee Mann, no thanks.

Frankly, I'll admit I was listening to a lot of crap (well, I will still claim Billy Joel, Michael Jackson and Elton John -- and the Grease and Annie soundtracks) until about 1987 when I discovered Beatles tapes were better than top 40 radio.

But I stand by my dislike of those musicians.
