Mary Lou Lord BANNED at SXSW!

this really pisses me off. one of the big highlights of SXSW is Mary Lou Lord busking on Sixth street. But I just got this in an email:

"Just got word from Mary Lou that the cops shut her down from busking on Sixth Street! They cited a new law banning amplification... this is her 11th year attending, never had a problem before... "

now doesn't this seem a bit funny, considering that Sixth street is full of tens of thousands of people right now, not to mention the fact that there's IH-35 right next to where she usually performs at?

The first year I did SXSW (1993) was fantastic just because of all the freedom and booze and drugs and Mary Lou Lord.

The second year I did SXSW (1994) was, likewise, a fucking incredible experience, also due, in part, by Mary Lou Lord.

Ditto all that shit for about 6 years....

In the meantime, count up about 795 times me and my buds ran into Mary Lou Lord at a show or on the street. She is about as much an institution of Austin, TX as Leslie is. If I had to walk down 6th Street in the middle of that shit-fest without her on the corner of 6th & Nueces; I think I might do something drastic.

Fuck Austin for jacking around one its greatest treasures.

Fuck the recording industry for ignoring one the the potentially greatest singer/songwriters of the late 20th/early 21st centuries.

Fuck you for stealing my chalk.
