For writing things like this:
But like a dog trying to cover its shit with leaves or dirt, Erik had literally piled on every trick - or trope - in the faux-Mex, Southwestern cookbook. The plate looked like the last shot of a bukakke video - filmed at Chili's.

bourdain is the fucking best. end of story. even though he'd hate me because i'm a vegetarian hippie. but then i could just call him a sellout for quitting smoking and having a baby.

Your idea of selling out is funny to me.

He's actually got a lot of contrary viewpoints. I read an article where in one paragraph he says that professional kitchens are often openly hostile to women, then a minute later says they're the only real meritocracies.

So whatever, I don't want the guy to be president (or my boss). I'd still have a drink with him. And the book he wrote on Typhoid Mary was pretty good. illuminating, even! At least he's not faking it.

I'm not sure if the philosophy of Bourdain makes any actual sense, but it is entertaining. The new book has a painfull passage trying to rationalize the obvious selling-out of some of his peers and heroes. Not that I want to re-start the selling-out discussion, but I don't need him to apologize for Mario Batali.
