A trip to America

I am considering later in the year maybe taking a trip around America. I think it would be exciting to see somewhere I've read so much about, and only had a glimpse at for a few days in Houston.

Recommendations about how to go about it/where to go? Obviously I'd have to go to Dallas to visit people. I would think that Los Angeles and Oklahoma City would be visited for the same reasons.

I also recommend new orleans. the other 2 places mere said are on my list. I like LA, but it helps to know someone with a car there. Vegas is interesting.

if you come in november you can go to fun fun fun fest with us in austin. the jesus lizard is the only confirmation so far, but they've had a couple great lineups in their short existence.

I vote Denver, and I love Boston but I kinda like it because it's Europe-y and therefore probably wouldn't impress you.

San Francisco and NYC are on my personal list, but not having been there I can't in good faith recommend them. I'd love to have a beer with ya!

go to boston. it's great. i can give you a huge list of shit to do. st. louis is fn awesome, i loved it when we went. and you can't skip nyc. gotta throw some love to the northeast. you can get a really cheap bus from boston to nyc, too, on the fung wah.

oklahoma city? what's the reasoning behind that?

Road trip Dallas - Austin via the Czech bakery would be my recommendation

New York has that first trip to London buzz, but I preferred Chicago, not as in your face and more relaxing.

Having been to both San Fran and NYC, I do highly recommend visiting. Two totally different cities with completely opposite personalities! Make sure you have plenty of time...

New York would be really cool, but maybe a bit daunting by myself. And yes, OKC. But that would be to visit friends.

I never even thought of taking the train across America, it would certainly be an interesting way of seeing the country.

the train is fun, not the quickest though. I took it to Austin once, a normal 2.5 - 3 hour drive ended up being a 6 hour train ride. I did meet some really interesting people, they were a step above the greyhound(bus) set.

and OKC isn't that far from dallas. Maybe request the flaming lips play a concert while you're there.

I would recommend Memphis as well just because it's so iconic. But I wouldn't bother staying long.
If you do hit Memphis do yourself a favor and visit the Stax museum.

A trip through the southwest desert would be well worth it.
