Dallas Tiki

Postby monet2u » Mon Apr 02, 2007 1:42 pm

hey you party people... check out this clip of the Dallas Trader Vics. You have to make it there and have a drink for me. :D
Go to the Dallas News link
http://www.dallasnews.com/blcS.sc?search=tiki+graceland

You will find a cool tour of the Dallas Trader Vic's and also a
demonstration on making their signature drink the Dallas Blue Star
Apparently it's reopened in the original spot with much of the original stuff. Cool.

I was just at my fave tiki bar last night Forbidden Island in Alameda. OH HOW I LOVE THEE....um sorry I really really like that bar.

I haven't been there yet, but Sam works directly across the street from it. I think he can see it from the window.

When they had their big opening, there was traffic backed up in all directions for a looooooong time, so I am afraid it might be too trendy for me right now. . . I'll have to wait until the buzz dies down because I want some fruity drinks!!!

What makes a tiki bar different than a normal bar? Just the fruity drinks?

Mere- a tiki bar is about the tiki culture too not just the drinks. however, the drinks are YUMMY! :D

Don't wait...go there now! So it's a bit busy, if I'd left the line at my fave tiki bar (because there was a line)...I would have probably never gone back and I fell in LOVE with that place and they know me there now. So you never know, just go there and check Trader Vics out.

I've been to the SF, Emeryville (east bay), and now the London Trader Vics. If I ever get back to Dallas, I'm headed to that one too. :D

Here's a nice link from a local SF/B.Area guy pretty well known within the tiki community. Otto Von Stroheim. I'm a subscriber of his news letter which is how I found out about the Dallas Trader Vics reopening.

I'm down for checking out Trader Vic's, but the export I REALLY want from Ca is a Trader Joe's.

oh yes, TJ's is great. Their stuff is cheap and healtful and quite yummy. I like shopping there. I'm surprised they haven't gotten there yet. They've been expanding like crazy.

Oh. Yeah. I forgot about this thread.
Bon and I went here for our anni back in November.

It's expensive. The food is good. They can make a great old-fashioned. And it's a freakin' time capsule.

I took Asia out there last year for her birthday.

I concur that the food was on the pricey side, but the drinks were damn tasty! I really dig coconut and the Bahia was fantastic!

...and Trader Vics failed before Dallas ever got hip to the Tiki.

I'm really mad that those bums always lose when I go to see them, but the upside is that tickets to games in Oakland are dirt cheap. We were three rows back at First base and it was about $45 for both seats. AND they have veggie hot dogs.
