Run?!?!?! Are you kidding me?!?!?!

A few Forkers have made quite the concerted effort to start doing 5K's on a regular basis, so I thought it would be good to start up a new forum to coordinate events, post times, etc.

Good idea. I half-heartedly made a kindasorta joke about running but secretly I really would like to do it.

Katie, what couch to 5k program are you using? I've seen several of them online.

i did this one: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml with the help of the handiest ipod app ever, coincidentally titled couch to 5k. it lets you play whatever music you want and gives you prompts for when to start/stop. i'm almost to a 45 minute nonstop run (and by "run" i mean very slow jog). never would've thought i could do that.

Thanks for the link Katie. Since I quit smoking I've been steadily gaining weight, only about 10 pounds so far, but I've been trying to think of something physical that I could get into. The very idea of running makes me tired, but this looks like a program I could actually do. Now that the weather is more cooperative, I might just give this a try.

this program is really great. it's not that difficult if you just stick with it. so make yourself go out three times a week for half an hour and in no time you'll be running races. :)

congrats on quitting, sybil!

Chantix - truly a wonder drug. I know there has been a lot of controversy about it, but it's worked like magic for me.

well done indeed!!!! been almost 2 years for me and I often say to myself that I'm so happy I no longer smoke.

Ok I'm not into running but this section is motivating me to get back to my walking and or bike riding. I'll be taking the bike out for a spin this sunday for sure!!!! as long as I'm not dead, I will let you know how it went. :)

W1D1 done and over with. So I've officially began.

Not too bad. It was better than I expected. My shins always take a good five minutes (even after the five minute warm up walk) to cooperate. That shouldn't be a problem in a few weeks though.
